I don't think that binding legitimate commands to a different key is a big deal lol. I moved my CommoRose key to ScrollWheelPress for ease while flying. With pretty much pressing that down and sliding my finger off the side of it and hitting fire, I spotted someone before the CommoRose is fully rendered on my screen. Makes it really easy to keep track of an enemy when can spot that fast and not have it interrupt your turns.

I think it is a problem when people can do sh*t like they did in other games, where people were binding things that weren't meant to be in game to keys that should only really be doing the commands that are available in the games key binding menu. Alot of it was grey area stuff, and then there were really shady things that were outright cheating, like this (can't remember it perfectly, but it's close):

    Tab=Textures bTransparant True | ScoreMenu

Which made all the walls semi transparant so that you could see where the other team was.

And then simple ones that were really no big shake: LeftMouse=Fire | OnRelease Reload

I would do that in America's Army
Nobody said anything, mostly because it won't make you fire faster.

Why would it not make you fire faster? I fire really slow... so thats why I never use the pistol/and/or I die when I try..

It would only let you fire as fast as the server allows. The server dictates the rate of fire, to keep people from abusing that in cheating. And alot of games don't even allow for that anymore to begin with, because of people making macros that would dump 8 rounds from a shotgun in about 2 seconds, so they not only made the rof serverside, they took the option of binding it to the scrollwheel away also. But you could try binding it to the scrollwheel and see if it works, mite be allowed in this game.

I think TO:CrossFire for UT2k4 is going to be out soon

Never know with things like Nostromo and other macro tools out now days, makes switching and other things really fast.

You get them in cs, shoot duck scripts etc, so when you shoot with mouse 1 etc it auto ducks for you.

looked like a freak comming towards you putting you right off

none of that is possible now though so theres only the client side D3D & OpenGL to fix etc...

lmao, that is like the people that used to bind the Tactical Ops taunt animations and move keys at the same time.

Rate of fire for each gun is predetermined so I dont think it would do anything.

Ok, if this isn't cheating, tell me exactly how to do it please.

What I want to do, is make the scroll wheel up and down, the new alt. fire, for fire. So that I can still left click, but when using a pistol or single shot mode, just scroll up or down fast, giving the same result as clicking fast.

I realise that there is a roof on the ROF for the pistol and all that, and I know that. But it is way easier to scroll up, than to click as fast as possible, while maintaining smooth aiming.

PB and EA both consiter macro use as a form of cheating.

I'd dig up the referance, but I'm needin ta step out here. Go check out the PB forums on the issue if you don't believe me.
Well then EA and PB are both wrong. Period. I made the Nostromo. I am fully away of how it can AID in cheating, but the device itself, nor the use of the software is any form of cheating.

You could however, as I said, use a macro to help you cheat. For example, in Tac Ops, you were able to swim up waterfalls by pushing your "forward" key very fast. This was a bug in the game. It would be easy with a macro to simulate hitting the forward key very fast (while you really held down one key), allowing you to swim up waterfalls. You were able to do this without the use of a macro, but the macro made it easier.

When designed, the idea of macros was to make very common muti keystroke tasks simple. For example, again, in TacOps, you had to buy armor, weapons, nades, and ammo at the start of each round. With the use of a macro, this was made simple. You were easily able to make a macro that bought a helmet, vest, sold your default pistol, bought a main weapon, switched to that weapon reloaded it (since for some reason it was always unloaded to start), and buy 4 clips for it.

Another example would be buying armor mid round. If you ran back to the base, you could just hit the button you have associated with your "buy armor' macro, and buy armor much quicker.

It is up to the game developers to limit certain aspects of the game so that you can’t use a macro to cheat. For example, if you create a macro that simulates you clicking your fire key every .01 seconds until you stop that macro, you could conceivably have an automatic sniper rifle (or any other weapon). However, if designed correctly, the game should limit the rate of fire for a given weapon. A sniper rifle shouldn’t be able to fire every .01 seconds, even if it is a semi auto sniper rifle (there is no way you could EVER pull a trigger more than once in .01 seconds). The macro would however allow you to fire within .01 seconds of the minimum time it takes for that weapon to be ready for the next shot.

The use of a macro simply allows you to take full advantage of a game. In some cases, you may be able to take advantage of a bug easier with the use of a macro, but that’s up to the user, and just plain cheap.

Bottom line is, macros in themselves are not cheating. They can make cheating easier, but the simple use of a macro is not a cheat. You should have NO worries what so ever about using a macro as designed.

Ditto for Tribes 1. A script that enabled you to pick your inventory away from a inv station and go in/out in 1 sec instead of 10 secs clicking around was made by a player, and in t2 it was built in the game
