We were hacked. Several times over the past two weeks, in fact.
While all passwords are encrypted and salted, it's recommended that you change your password here when you can.
Only the default (TGN Light) theme for now. Dark them is also coming back soon. Then CSN. Then Wrestlin' Nation. A lot of WIP stuff right now. There are a couple of things still not working either. Sorry.
One of my friends mentioned something about "scripts" or something like that.. when he was playing a game.. I forgot what it was, some older game, he complained about someone scripting. I asked what that was, and he said that its where they bind a semi auto weapon to the scroll wheel.. and like when they scroll up or down, you shoot ultra fast... like for each "click" it shoots. Something like that. Was he right? what is that?
Scripting is using high level code in order to modify the behaviour of a game.
Most of the time, yes, it's cheating. If it's an outside resource that allows you to do something more easily or would be impossible without the script, is it not obvious that it's the very nature of a cheat?
Edit: Rampent scripting in JKII totally destroyed it's on-line play. People were using scripting to execute the more difficult lightsaber moves with the press of a single button. The worst instance (and most popular, unfortunatly) was a combination of force pull plus instant death saber swing (very hard to pull off without a script). It was basicly a "press a key to kill" script. Oddly, the Doom/Quake engines have always supported scripting rather than removing it.
What about the type of thing my friend explained to me? Wouldn't you just be able to edit it in controls.con or something? I don't know anything really about what it is.. thats why i'm asking. The thing he was talking about sounds like a good idea, but it sounds like it could be cheating, but then again, not really.
If it's a keybind, I don't see how it's really "cheating."
Binding scrollup and scrolldown both to primary fire is a legitimate
configuration in the options, I think. You wouldn't even have to do it via the console or config files.
If that's a cheat, then people working out how to bind their joystick to be able to spot is as well.

its not cheating in any way
you are not messing with the game code in any way
key/mouse binds are legit
Messing with any of the files in the EA BF2 Folder is asking for trouble.

BF2 doesn't natively support scripts. Infact, PB actively attempts to detect them. A script is running something in the engine using it's own code. As far as I know, it's impossible to script in the BF2 engine.
Your friend may be confusing "Marcos" with "Scripts".
Macros are generally (scripted) sets of commands that are executed via an outside utility. For example, I have a Nostromo controller:
This product supports macros. I can write a script that I can associate with any key. This script can contain any series of key presses I decide to put in. For example: I could script one key press to Dolphin dive repeatedly for 30 seconds or to press the left mouse button 30 times in a second as long as it's held down.
Is that cheating?
I'd say yes... and thus, don't do it.
EA and PB also do say using harmful macros is cheating... but they are hard to detect.
If you are a moral type and/or want to be truely proud of your preformance/skills/luck, don't use macros.

I think what he meant was things like in UT99 where in some mods you could bind a semi-auto weapon to the center wheel scroll and it shot as fast as the scroll wheel clicked to the next position. That was from modders that didn't set the rate of fire on the server side and let it be determined by the client. Another big abuse in that game was binding your centerview key to your an alternate (not alt-fire, literally an alternate) fire key, so when you are on a flat surface with someone, it would result in no recoil and the gun being held at head shot level. And this was all done by just going into an ini file that held your keybinds and rearranging them.
There was alot of other crappy things you could do in that game just from modifying your keybinds and putting executable commands from the game engine on them.
As an example, with the UT99 engine (and TacOps), you basically went into the user.ini section which was the equivalent of the controls.con file in this game:
LeftMouse=Fire | CenterView
or
C=Jump | OnRelease Fire
or
LeftMouse=Fire | OnRelease SwitchWeapon
And those are just a sample of commands that are all recognized by that game and can be jumbled together as the equivalent of minor macros in that game. There were a lot more complex ones than that, like ones that would add a bright light source to each player that bled through walls, but that was adding about 5 executable commands to one key.
As far as I know, I don't think this game supports multiple commands on one key, but I've never really looked into it. But, macros would probably do just that, and there are a lot of people using things like the Nostromo to do just that.
PB only scans what is loaded into memory also, I've got an email from them stating that. I used to be a head admin for a game league, so I needed to kind of have some confirmation on that because of someone cheating in BF42 and them trying to use an excuse that I wasn't buying, it didn't turn out good for that guy lol.
In Mohaa there were some scripting but not too bad.
For example you can keybind to switch to your primary weapon right after throwing a grenade. Or always lean right right when strafing right. It was more of a convenience, not really cheating.
