Re: Is AGP seriously THIS dead?

Nope and nope. This is rediulous. Even the insanely expensive no-name sites are out of stock. I've called six places already. And I'm not even sure I want this board yet lol. I figured I'd find a place who has it in stock, then research it a bit. Maybe I ought to just think of another board. Gigabyte is out because I can only find 800mhz versions. MSI is out because I they're not in stock.

I give up. Maybe I should just read some reviews on the board to see if I like it, then wait until PCConnection is back in stock, which is supposably only in one week so that's not so bad.
      ---------
edit: scratch that. Called to confirm and they said that the 15th isn't a set day, and that theres actually been someone waiting for one for 2 weeks and they haven't had one in months. I must be the only AGP guy alive anymore.

I'll probably bite the bullet and buy my board from an unknown site like the one you just linked to. As for the other recomendations, while appreciated that you participated, I have to wonder if you read what this thread is about. Lots of people suggesting I either go sli, or get a new agp videocard. This is a thread about agp mobo's moreso than videocards. While agp videocards are also obviously dying, this particular thread is about my search for a good agp mobo. Thank you for the suggestions though.

It won't underclock your CPU, it just uses a lower HTT multiplier. From what I've read we're no even close to utilizing the full bandwith of the HTT, so no worries there.

Holy crap this thread is still here?

Bite the bullet and BUY THE ASROCK.

My ASRock performs better and has been more reliable than my Asus K8V SE Deluxe 754 POS board.

BUY THE FRIGGEN ASSROCK AND CALL IT A DAY.

Well besides the HTT the Gigabyte looked decent enough. But between it and the MSI, I'd really rather have the MSI. But of course, if I can't, then I can't. I'd watch the eBay auction but it's for a used board and closely nearing the price of a new one. I don't want the Asrock becuase it's not what I'm looking for. I don't want or need a board that does all of that. And the law of the land is that the more things you cram into an object, the more likely it is to fail and the less likely it is to match up against specialists in it's own field. Sure, the Asrock might work and even overclock a little, but I'm looking for a high end board. I already have a board that works. It just isn't, possibly, good enough for my needs. I'll only replace it with something much better. It'd be absolutely silly to replace an okay board with a different kind of okay board.

It'd be a great tool for helping troubleshoot other peoples rigs though.

Re: Is AGP seriously THIS dead?

One thing's for sure: I really am getting tired of throwing money at my computer and watching it vanish with absolutely no change in peformance (or even a drop, like with the XFI sound card). I'm also sick and tired of getting so aggrivated with it. Maybe I WILL just throw away my videocard and mobo (figuratively speaking) and go pci-e. I really really don't want to do that, as it basically means throwing away $500 worth of new electronics. I'll probably make $300 between the two if I'm lucky (after ebay costs and everything). And a whole new slew of problems come into play if I do that, as in which card do I buy? Although easier than what I'm going through now...

And there's always the possability that $500 down the line, I install windows, install BF2/COD2/FEAR and still have to play at half settings. That's the main reason I wanted to try a better mobo first. Just to see if it's been the mobo the whole time.

I guess the Gigabyte's 800mhz is an even trade to this Asus's via chipset. It still seems to be considered a budget board though. I've yet to stumble upon an agp board considered "high end" until those Neo-f/platinum's. It's amazing that no one has it for any price.

The MOBO is actually a great overclocker.

LOL, do you know what an RMA is? You return a faulty product for a new working one.

The board was crashing my system after installing my 7800GT (which turned out to be my 18A 12V power supply), I flashed the windows flashing bios from their website and it corrupted the bios. It won't get past the bios version screen.

The ASrock board has gotten tons of awards from numerous websites for value and engenuity. Actually was less of a headache to work with than my Nforce4 motherboard, although its overclocking ability kinda sucked from voltage limitations... but they have volt mods for that.

Obviously I know what an RMA is thats why I'm wondering why you'd suggest someone buy a defective board from you.

Re: Is AGP seriously THIS dead?

I remember that combo from a ways back. I'm hesitant though because the core and mem clocks are much lower than what I currently run. My x850xt pe's stock clocks are 540/1180, while that 7800gt is 445/1070. Even if I could get $300 for my x850xt pe, do you really think it'd be worth it? Is the 7800gt really better than an x850xt pe?

Yes!!! Quite a bit better. You see my 3dMark with my 7800gt.

Re: Is AGP seriously THIS dead?

I don't know if you remember, but we've actually had this conversation before. I guess if I'm willing to pay upwards of $150 on a new mobo (considering shipping and tax and the fact that I was starting to feel willing to dish out to a more expensive site if they had any in stock), then $350 on a combo to pci-e can't hurt.

I keep thinking of it as wasting $500 with my "old" hardware, instead of an upgrade that costs as much as the water cooling and mobo I was planning on getting, and has a greater chance of giving the desired results (and of course I'll water cool in a couple of weeks once I can afford it again).

Sure. Fine. Screw it. Though, Newegg doesn't have the deal anymore so it's ZipZoomFly or TigerDirect. Which should I use?

Thank's y'all for listening to me babble on and on and on and....
                            -----------------
edit: Weird, the deal is on Newegg now. I swear that the option to choose a free mobo wasn't there earlier when I was looking.

An RMA'ed board is returned for a working one. How is that defective?

PS: Comparing clocks is not the way to judge graphics cards. Pipelines, pixel shaders, etc make clock speeds an after thought. The 7800GT is about the same price and quite a bit better.
