    Is AGP seriously THIS dead?

I know that pci-e has been out for a while now, but it seems like agp suddenly died very quickly over the past four months. When I ordered my original parts, Newegg.com was about 50/50. Now they only have a few to choose from, and the pickings are slim. Directron.com has 2 I believe (and I'm going to research the Gigabyte one to see if it's any good). An eBay search for "+939 +agp" returns 12 auctions. Twelve!!! Now it seems that most of the people I talk to on here have pci-e. I'm aware that a vast grouping of TBF2'rs are still running pre-XP on pre P4/AMD etc, but most of the people I talk to, I talk to because they have nice rigs. And are cool. (Not to say all you prebies aren't cool. I'm not elitist yet)

Anyway, I'm trying to replace my board with a better one before I install water cooling. My videocard is brand new and should be able to handle BF2, COD2, FEAR, etc at full specs. At most, with the help of water cooling and careful overclocking. I do fully plan to build a second rig which will run in sli with a dual core processor, and possibly chilled cooling (just for fun) and better ram. But for this computer, and this point in time, I feel like I'm looking for parts for a Model T Ford! Can anyone point me in the right direction of a great AGP board from a reputable website that'll ship out in a decent amount of time? I'd like to have the board in my hands by this weekend if possible, and I don't want any more surprises. A solid board with a solid history of oc'ing and compatability. I'm even holding off returning the Xtreme Music XFI card until I test it on the new mobo just in case it actually works.

Any help is appreciated, and any comments, funny (either poking fun at me or agp or whatever) is completely welcomed. I don't take offense, and enjoy a good laugh (and could use a few!) Thanks again ~ Jofaba

ps: Here's a joke: type in "agp" in the TBF2 search box. Zilch. Nada. Bango. =P

Are you sure about that? Not sure how I could have included any more information in my signature. Actually, I can't. I've maxed out my line count even with making the font smaller.

Re: Is AGP seriously THIS dead?

Thanks for the recomendation. I can't say that I'm too impressed with the board judging by the Newegg reviews (sorted by lowest rating first), but the problem there is weeding out the idiots, and the people who have problems that don't affect me. For example, I only run one SATA device, and even if I decide to make my second DVD drive SATA, that's still only 2. Plus, when I water cool, the other two will be available. So that's not a problem.

I don't know how to voltmod, so there appears to be an overclocking problem with this board due to low vdimm and vcore. I know that no one board is going to get 5 stars (or eggs heh) across the board (no pun intended) but there's gotta be a board thats not on Newegg or directron that's reputable. Price isn't a concern. I'll even buy used from anyone here if you've still got your kickass agp after switching to pci-e.

Thanks again to all replies. If I come off sounding unappreciative in any post, especially onces where I'm asking for help, it's not that. I'm just trying to think very plainly and directly when working with technology (can sound cold and harsh sometimes and I appologize in advance).

The only board to get for agp and 939:

Fairly good oc options, lots of people have it, and you can go pcie when you want to.

Re: Is AGP seriously THIS dead?

Its not a great overclocker, but it does have both an Agp 4x/8x slot and a pci-e 16x slot, so you can still use your AGP card and have the option of upgrading to pci-e in the future.

Re: Is AGP seriously THIS dead?

The only problem is that it has 2 full pages of single eggs before it breaks clear into the double eggs. I really doubt that a card that combines AGP and PCI-E is any good for anything. *Sigh*

I know that I'm asking a lot, asking for help, but I've already reviewed all of the Newegg and Directron mobos. I'm looking for other sites with other options that don't have repeated cons that outweigh the pros. I'd hate to replace a decent Asus with something that doesn't even work simply because it's all that was available on one or two sites.

I'm absolutely solid in my plan to stick with AGP on this computer. My point is, that until PCI-E, everyone was AGP. Surely someone must have come across a decent board. People were overclocking and running solid way before I ever came along. It just seems like when PCI-E came along, there must have been some sort of Governmental program to destroy all proof of existance of AGP. I only got this stuff 4 months ago, surely some of you must remember the good ol' days heh.

I was hoping to buy a board today but was pretty sure that was impossible because I spent all weekend between water cooling and mobo research and came out further ahead with the water cooling than with the agp board.

As you can gauge between the start date of my membership and my post history, I'm an active member of this site. I'm not sure how much that speaks as proof that I am who I say I am, or that I'm a man of my word, but if someone can point me to a realistic and clear direction that leads to a desired outcome, ie an AGP based system that's not bottlenecked by the mobo, I'll replay you somehow. There won't be no sucky sucky but I'll think of something =P

I am running the ASRock Combo-Z right now.

Its got a 754 socket and a 939 socket, you simply change jumpers on the board to use the other socket.

It has an 8x AGP slot. Supports Dual Core AMD's on the 939, 1000MHZ FSB.

Its not SATAII though, it has a few regular SATA connections however.

Its a decent board, and it claims it supports overclocking but i havnt tried OC'ing mine yet.

4 DIMM slots for the 939 side with 4GB max.

Its served me well for a cheap board that i used to replace my A**** (ASUS) K8V SE Deluxe.

With what you asked for there really is only one board and its the one I posted. Just go onto other places and ask around, it's actually a really good board. And if you trust newegg reviews, you're in for a crapload of trouble. I never look at newegg reviews, I always go to real hardware sites that know what they're talking about for reviews.

I appreciate that. Sometimes a person needs to be slapped to be brought back to reality. I'll research the mobo you suggested and sit on it for a while (not literally of course. That most likely wouldn't help fix anything heh). I AM still leary of any board going under $100 though because my experience so far has been that if it's cheap, it's crap, and the reviews are correct. Of course, the whole reason I started this thread was to get reviews from people USING the board. While I might long for some 1337 board that'll be the best of the best as far as agp goes, anything that peforms (as would be expected) better than my A8V is probably worth the switch.

Well I have a Radeon 850xt PE that I bought off Newegg for $320. Been doing some research and I found that you can sell the card used on Ebay for about 300-400. You should probably go ahead and sell it, then go ahead and buy a 7800GT and PCI-E board. Just a suggestion...7800GT isn't that much better but you won't have jagged shadows :).

Actually I had this mobo up until 4 weeks ago, it is a fantastic mobo, go read the reviews on it. It has everything but the kitchen sink. I sold it to a friend and he is running 4 LCD's off a Radeon 9600 and a Radeon X800GT. It is a great mobo!
