Triple buffering + Vsnyc high frame rates for TFT owners!

As a beta tester for directx tweaker i was given permission to share with
you the directx tweaker that enables triple buffering + vsync. This is
especially helpful for us tft owners with vsync, as in some cases like myself
and many others you can sometimes get a frame rate drive to half that
    of your 60hz...

With this tweaker you can have triple buffering enabled and keep the frame
rates in the upper 50-60fps depending on your hardware ofcause, for example i can play battlefield 2 no shadows, textures on high, and the rest on medium to high between 55-60fps perm with no drops below that... without this trple buffering tweak it drops to sometimes 30fps or below! also it makes the game so incredibly smooth
with no tearing its like a whole new game

Please before giving me the flames i have tested this and many others
and have gained a far better gaming experience, on my nice tft.

TWEAKER BELOW - YOU MUST HAVE .NET 1.1 -

    HOW TO LOAD BF2 MODS
    http://www.nonatainment.de/web/Defau...3&g=posts&t=31

Because the early version didnt work with punkbuster i became a beta tester and donated money to help fix the problem, punkbuster in F.e.a.r
and battlefield 2 used to kick me because it thought it was a cheat hook
but now they fixed it whereby it doesnt hook it forces it. F.E.A.R and battlefield 2 are totaly smooth and give very good frame rates now with
    vsync enabled.

As a teaser the LATEST version has an option to force vsync and triple buffering for SLI owners, which many people have had problems with
but that is another story :p

    HAVE FUN!

    --- UPDATE ----

...............------------ HOW TO LOAD MODS --------------..........
To avoid a lot of silly questions, Ive been playing with this all day, to tried and come up with the right things to put in the blanks to run both BF2 vanilla and Special Forces. First use the program like a game launcher, bring it up select what you want to play and click start. To add a program, select new. Then move down to Properties for New Program. In the name blank put the name of the program. The next two blanks are the same for both programs.

    Path: C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield \BF2.exe
    Workpath: C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield

The next entry is Arguments. I will list the Vanilla entry first then Special Forces.

    Arguments: +menu 1 +fullscreen 1 +modpath mods

    Arguments: +menu 1 +fullscreen 1 +modpath mods/xpack +ignoreasserts 1

The do the other entries as earlier instructed. Im not a dummy but sometimes Im slow so I figured some other people are as well and I made this entry to help all the people like me. I noticed one sideeffect to doing this tweak. Ive been testing and coming back here all day and strange enough my in game scores have almost doubled. I hope you get the same side effect. By the way, If you arent a member of this forum why not? . . . . . Good luck. . . .Red

Btw, triple buffer in D3D games is up to the developer... most are just too damn lazy to bother implementing it. It's in UT2004 and helps a lot for me.
For OpenGL, it's driver dependant. NVIDIA used to have it, but they got rid of it. ATI has it. I hope that NVIDIA puts it back properly!
    *

    BACKBUFFER = OpenGl

Triple buffering in the ati and
nvidia drivers is ONLY for opengl, whereby battlefield 2 is a D3D game
this is the problem because of WHQL restrictions graphics drivers are not allowed to force triple buffering with d3d apps *thanks microsoft*. Games
must also support triple buffering like unreal tourney does... but many games like f.e.a.r,battlefield 2,need for speed DO NOT support triple buffering.

This is where directx tweaker comes in and forces it

I'd never install something like this. You could be getting a back door installed for all you know. pass until it's been checked out and made available from a reputable download source.

Sounds very good. VSync is a perfect option to take away the tearing effects, makes the game much smoother. Though in BF2 it makes me run at 70 : 2 = 35 FPS, and that's just crap. I will give it a shot.

I work with computers but only in industrial applications. Could some one please explain what Bloodoak was talking about in red neck terms (simplist terms possible). It sounds like the program will raise my frame rate and help get rid of lag, at least all the things that can cause lag on my end. Lately I been having lag issues on some servers and have gone so far as to get my DSL connection upgraded (Will be done Jan. 4, should be at least 250 mb up stream). They say my bandwith will be doubled. So can someone please translate Bloodoaks post for us dummies.......Red

In computer graphics, triple buffering is a variant on double buffering, a technique for drawing graphics that show no (or less) flicker, shearing, and tearing artifacts.

Triple buffering attempts to provide a speed improvement over double buffering. In real life applications, this often involves trying to abstract the graphics drawing operations from being synchronized with the monitor's refresh rate. Typically this involves frames being drawn at a rate lower than or higher than the monitor's frame rate (a variable frame rate) without the usual effects this would cause (namely flickering, shearing and tearing).

Due to the software algorithm not having to poll the graphics hardware for monitor refresh events, the algorithm is free to run as fast as possible. This is not the only method of triple buffering available, but is the most prevalent on the PC architecture where the speed of the target machine is highly variable.

Another method of triple buffering involves synchronising with the monitor frame rate, and simply using the third buffer as a method of providing breathing room for changing demands in the amount of graphics drawn. This is the use of a buffer in the true sense whereby the buffer acts as a reservoir. Such a method requires a higher minimum specification of the target hardware but provides a consistent (vs. variable) frame rate.

Triple buffering implies three buffers, but the method can be extended to as many buffers as is practical for the application.

Re: Triple buffering + Vsnyc high frame rates for TFT owners!

                              Ok I'll try.

On TFT monitor Page Tearing can occur:

Page tearing is a phenomena in computer/video games when a previously rendered frame overlaps a newly rendered frame, creating a 'torn' look as two parts of an object, most likely a wall, don't line up.
In vertical synchronization, the previous frame is held before rendering the next frame, creating a smoother look. The faster the monitor's response time, the less page tearing, the higher the monitor's refresh rate, and the higher the frames per second.
vsync & triple buffer makes it so the frames rendered don't overlap and flicker/tear, making bf2 much smoother to look at.
