That is how my shadows look in BF2 with my Sapphire X800 XT-PE. ATI has yet to address this problem, and my guess is, they never will.

I am done with ATI, I am on the waiting list for the BFG 7800 GTX 512mb.

Dude, get Catalyst 5.13, it's newer, and proven to be better. ALso, in ur graphics option screen, turn AA and texture filtering (AF) to the max, and also turn dynamic shadows to 'high'.

BUt what people say here is just wrong. U guys have lied about the prices of ATI cards and such.
thanks, i don't hate nvidia or anything, its just so many people are like NV IS BETTER w/o backing it up, people just don't want to accept the X1K line is really good (my XL oced 150 mhz on the core and 600 on the ram so its faster then a stock XT :) ) and now that its pretty close priced to NV's cards there a good option. And for your shadow's yeah do as they said it fixed it for me

Ya me too. I just dislike everybody standing up for nvidia, at this forum, i barely see any ATI supporters. So i must defend ATI and risk getting flamed. Over time, i've gotten over 100 flames from mostly NV fanboys just cause i say the X800XL is better than teh 6800GT (and it was at my time, it was 100 bucks cheaper than the 6800GT when i bought mine).

yeah, its funny with the whole 6800/X8X0 argument over SM3.0, when i got my X1800 XL first thing i did was DL some demos of games w/ SM3.0 and honestly it wasn't that great, definately not worth the FPS disadvantage compared to the ATI cards.

ah todays gonna be fun, gonna be running lots of 3D05 w/ my X1800 XL, i hope to break 9K which will be a stretch w/ my cpu but we'll see

Ya, i always argued about SM3.0. It doesn't make much difference, do i really care about the AA and AF quality of my shadows so much that it should be a 100 dollar difference? No, don't think so. It mainly only helps on OpenGL based games, not Direct 3D games, BF2 is Direct 3D i think.

Im starting to learn closer to ATI :O
But the GTX 512 is still on top everywhere. For the price of 700 dollars, its 1 fps increase at 1600, doesnt look too good.
Im suprised how good of a card the x1800 XT is. Id say its really good bang for your buck.
I just hope that chart is accurate.
I think the real answer is they are all good cards. ATI and nividia both make good cards and thank god for thre competition between the two as we get faster and faster GPU's. The main reason I choose the GTX this time round was SLI. Next year I may buy another GTX 512 and sli them. For now no game annoys the GTX, FEAR, HL2, BF2 all run at stupidly high rea with everything on. Only quake 4, doom 3 care you have 512 megs anyway more game I suppose will arrive soon that do.

I'm also getting more FPS than this chart.

Ya, i agree, both series of cards are very good ones. Thank god for the competition between them, when graphics card manufacturers start competing, the prices go WAY down.

yeah, its funny when people are happy about one company doing bad, i mean tyhe 512 GTX is 750 as is, imagine if NV had a monoply on the GPU market

Don't ask me then. I'm still at my cousin's house celebrating with our extended family. We'll be leaving in like 1 hour after the roasted chestnuts are done. In other words, i can't post pics, i don't bring a PC to their house and they don't have a very capable PC either. Anyways, i get like 4x better shadows than u and i have an inferior (albeit newer) vid card.

Undoubtedly your 7800GTX 512 is great. For that much money (£300?), I'd be mighty peed off if it wasn't... However the 6800GT doesn't "suck"...
Mine's fine.. runs all games on high (including F.E.A.R) with good fps. Video playback on my 19" 8ms LCD monitor is fantastic. They're generally considered to be excellent vid cards, with great overclocking potential. If it "sucked" that bad I can only presume you didn't have it set up right.
Have fun with your card. We need early adopters to spend silly money for components, so us mere mortals can buy two in SLI when they're much cheaper.

Nice screens, but those shadows *are* really bad... At 1280x1024, 2xAA and shadows medium, my 6800GT renders them at *almost* smooth.

That looks good, but try to get the same shots I do. Just create a LAN Server like I do, and get on Gulf Of Oman 64, and take a screen of the Cobra from that angle.

I am looking forward of you showing us those, because it's hard for me to believe that. Though I don't say you are lieing.

About the shadows, it's an ATi issue. They know about it and are still working on it, it's nothing BF2 either, it happens in most recent games. nVidia doesn't have to issue, so that's why they look smoother. Though issues are things to get solved, so no worries.
