yah it was the RAM. at the load up (Phoenix- AwardBIOS black screen), it usually says the Main Processor, Memory Testing: 524288K OK, Primary IDE Master:..... and then on the bottom it says CMOS checksum error-defaults loaded. Also for main processor, it says, AMD Hammer Family processor-Model unknown. And then on the very bottom it has "Press F1 to continue, DEL to enter SETUP. What does all that mean, and what to do next w/ this difficult mobo? thanks!

That's to enter your BIOS. Go in and look things over. Make sure your CPU is clocked to spec. Check to make sure your RAM timings are as recomended. DONT CHANGE ANYTHING YET. Re-post here when you get the info..........

It should give your CPU clock above that, and in the main menu, i think your 4th choice down, the first thing are you ram timings, it should default to what's recommended in the rams manufacturer's settings. I would check to be certain. I'll go into my Bios to see what else, I'll be back.

            Ok- softmenu- your first menu.
advanced chipset features- your 4th- ram and timings.

Are you able to load windows?

Yeah i was wondering, same BIOS just diff w/ dfi. You may need to enable that hardware config to see if it will post correctly. Will it take the windows installation?

Set up the raid before you can install windows.

I would worry about that after the install. Unless there are issues w/ an old mobo and new cpu and new hardware not supported. But you should be able to get it up and running. Worse case scenario- use 1 drive to get it up and deal with the second after all kinks are figured out. You might have to reninstall windows again, but does it really matter now?

ok, i thought Windows would install fine but it says... "Windows could not start because of a computer disk hardware configuration problem. Could not read from the selected boot disk. Check booth path and disk hardware.
please check the windows documentation about hardware disk configuration and your hardware reference manuals for add'tl info." So what now?
