Even though you may not see ghosting, it is there and is noticeable. IF you sit a CRT next to it and paly the same game, you will notice a big difference.

The reason why most people don't have that monitor is because we can't afford 2 friggin 7800gtx cards like you. That's 900 dollars, almost as much as the 2405!

When I was in Minnisota visiting family, I stopped over at (CB4)akaNE's house for a bit and played some on his comp with very nice Dell LCD monitor, I could honestly tell the difference in color quality and the ghosting right off the bat. I can even tell the difference when I am in a store and they have the LCD tvs by the CRT ones. And on both accounts, I am not actually looking for it, I just notice it.

But, I would still like to get one in the near future, having the desk space and the ability to put it back further on the desk away from my two year old kid's fingers would be a nice bonus. Hopefully, by the time I do pick one up, they will have some of those issues worked out.

LCD all the way for me. Upgrading from a Hansol 710P 17" CRT to a Samsung 913N 8ms 19" LCD was a revelation. A perfect picture, no ghosting or motion blur when gaming (native resolution of 1280x1024 is more than adequate) and great for everything else, from net browsing and office work to watching DVDs. Along with that it has a a smaller desk footprint, is a lot easier on the eyes and produces a great deal less heat. A CRT is no comparison and I won't be going back.

Yeah similar thing for me i had a 5 year old 19" CRT i loved then it finally died so i spent 290 quid on a new LG1980U 19" 1280x1024 TFT and its amazing.

I'd like to have a 20" TFT we can get cheap ones through work for like 330 quid now but thats for a **** make but its still DVI and 1600x1200.

But for me its more of a question of hardware i mean if you buy a 1600x1200 TFT then you have to run all your games at hat res too which is expensive my system certainly coudnt do it without evrything set to low bar resolution.

LCD's are getting more and more competitive, but hardcore twitch gamers still will do better with a nice crt system. Its possible that the very best ($$$$$$$$) lcd screen available currently maybe able to compete with crt, but most wont. The lcd response time is a bit of marketing BS....the fact is that changing from blue to brown to green takes MMUUCCHH longer than black to white to black. With moving colors there is still going to be some tracing/trailing....and in a fast paced game like bf2 it will get you killed.

Yes a good vid card and a decent CRT is the way to go. Vertical sync is always something to strive for. I generally turn all textures and static lighting down all the way, but leave basic dynamic lighting and shadows. They hurt fps potential but help in more important ways: If someone is shooting out of a window a long ways away, the dynamic lighting will show the muzzle flash - that can be a lifesaver sometimes. Also, I can't begin to count how many times (as a chopper pilot) that people's shadows are projected through walls and give away a hidden enemy.

The low textures help moving enemies stand out and improve fps. With static lighting down all the way it's easy to see indoors.

I play at 1280 and am generally vsynced at 75Hz (about 80% of the time), which is not too bad. I have an amd64-3200/x800xl/2GB. For desert combat I used to run at 1600 vsynced @ 85 HZ. That was just butter.

EDIT: people are different from one another...I have been gaming fps'es for years and I can tell when my frame rates drop from 75Hz to 50....the average joe used to watching a TV screen may not beable to notice. Persoanlly I can't stand watching action scenes on TV or in the movie theatre. 30 fps is soooooo LLAAAGGGYYY. I pay 10 bucks to see the new star wars movie and I get to watch a spaceship go blipblipblipblipblipblip....slowly jumping across the screen.

You are just like me... I can's stand watching tv shows because of 24fps or 30fps... It is laggy and a person simply moving their arm slowly wil have stuttering.

If i don't see ghosting how is it noticable and how does it affect me?



Modern lcds are now down to 2ms response,

My lcd is running at 16ms, and i have no trouble playing bf2 at all. When you are gaming you arent normally looking at the image quality as you are shooting someone.

Note: lcd tvs are not the same as computer lcds, they normally have a much higher response rate.

One you get an lcd you normally don't go back.

CRT for me. Lower cost for the same size and speed and no worries about running at non-native resolution reducing your image quality. Sure, a $1000 LCD probably beats a $200 CRT but what's the point of that comparison?

LCDs are nice, but for gaming you really should cash out for a good one if you want a proper quality picture. For that price you could get an absolutely awesome CRT. Until this year I haven't been interested in LCDs due to the fact that i percieve ghosting and contrast problems quite notably. The new 6ms response 1500:1 contrast LCDs are quite promising however. Just have to wait until they go down in price... CRTs are being discontinued at a rapid rate unfortunately. One can only hope that LCDs will pick up the slack in quality.

CRT to LCD converts must keep in mind that they probably switched from an outdated and worn down CRT to a fresh display. Also, the people who get headaches from CRTs are probably running them at the wrong refresh rate. 60hz on a CRT will hurt your eyes and graphics drivers often try to pull down the refresh in games. Find an override tool.

I've used nothing but LCD's for the past 5 years or so and never thought I'd go back. But when I sold my laptop and built a pc I decided on a crt because of the price/size/res. Unfortunately I didn't pay full attention to the ad and it was a used crt and it has grill aperture ghost lines, but fortunately I ended up getting it for free because of a billing confusion. It's extremely large and weighs 80lbs and is on a glass top desk. I called the desk manufacturer to make sure it was okay and they said yep. No problems yet and I figure I'll keep this until it dies. The picture is great at any res and the only time I notice the lines is when I'm online and the background is light.

And I still think I'll stick with a CRT when this one dies. Unless I have a REALLY REALLY good job by that point, I just can't see spending 2 to 3 times as much money on a monitor that can't even hit 1600x1200 (this one goes above that but I never use anything higher).
