Re: LCD vs CRT... lets hear it..

I was a die-hard CRT fan for quite awhile, until one day my friend upgraded to a Dell 2405. One look at it and I was hooked. I did alot of shopping and ended up buying an HP2335, which in my opinion is a little better than the 2405. The picture is absolutly amazing, and performance is awesome. Once you step up to a widescreen monitor you'll never want to look at a CRT again, ever. I have yet to have any problems with it , none of the stuff that CRT fans talk about such as "ghosting" or any problem with color reproduction. One thing to keep in mind , however, with the bigger LCD's is that to get the most of them you'll want to run at the highest resolution possible. My 2335 runs native at 1920X1200, which BF2 doesn't support, so I just run it at the highest resolution that BF2 supports. It still looks great, but to run these high resolutions takes some graphics horsepower. I run 2 7800GTX's in SLI on a AMD64 4000+ , and it runs it very well. Also when I initially built my machine I ran just 1 Gb ram while waiting on my new 2X1Gb Mushkin ram to arrive in the mail. I was very surprised at how much better BF2 ran with 2 gb over 1 gb, enough so that at these resolutions I would consider 2gb a requirement. Go widescreen , and you'll never be happier!!!!!

Even though you may not see ghosting, it is there and is noticeable. IF you sit a CRT next to it and paly the same game, you will notice a big difference.

The reason why most people don't have that monitor is because we can't afford 2 friggin 7800gtx cards like you. That's 900 dollars, almost as much as the 2405!

I have 19inch Viewsonic, its pretty good, my old IBM 19inch CRT was a little faster in response time but that doesn't bother me, I run 1280x1120 or whatever on a G4 6800 its fine doesn't have any problems with HL2 full graphics or BF2.

the new 20" TFT's are actually every bit as good as a CRT better in fact.

Much higfher definition in terms of colours and they also do 1600x1200 resolution native and so can do everything a CRT can do only better.

To bad all these 20 inch LCD monitors are like 500 + dollars and for a good one is more like a grand. Thats some money I can't say I have. I can pick up a used 21inch crt on this one site I saw yesterday for 299 and it does like 2046xwhatever. So I don't see what all this talk about lcd's being so great. THERE TO DAMN EXPENSIVE!!!

LCD all the way for me. Upgrading from a Hansol 710P 17" CRT to a Samsung 913N 8ms 19" LCD was a revelation. A perfect picture, no ghosting or motion blur when gaming (native resolution of 1280x1024 is more than adequate) and great for everything else, from net browsing and office work to watching DVDs. Along with that it has a a smaller desk footprint, is a lot easier on the eyes and produces a great deal less heat. A CRT is no comparison and I won't be going back.

recent convert to LCD and I think it's awesome, my VX924 has a much sharper more vivid image than my last $1500 68lb 22" CRT.

USing CRT right now... 19" samsung something something...

But next time (in a few years)... most likely TFT (same as LCD??) will be the only choice

I like CRTs but LCDs are more space free things which I do need in my room

The current LCD with 8ms or less are 100% perfect for gaming.

Until they make an affordable LCD that doesn't create problems due to 'native resolutions' or until more games support widescreen resolutions, I won't be switching.

CRT is SOOOOOOOOOOO cheap and looks so good. I don't care about the extra room. My desk was built with CRT in mind.

But..you'd better believe that once BF2 (or its successors) start supporting widescreen, I'll be getting an LCD that day

There is no point in me getting a regular LCD...I'll be going widescreen or nothing.

                              Actually i have a 19" CRT. When i get a 19" TFT for $200 (4-6ms, 1280) ill buy one.
TFTs are much better for 2D applications, sharper picture, everything is clear.
I dont know what a TFT looks like when it comes to gaming, never played Bf2 on a TFT so far.

                                hmmm..
cant pick.. because i have both. I have a 19'' crt with a 17'' LCD that sits on top of it. (dual screens) I play with the view of game on my crt and usually irc/xfire/etc on top.

I can't wait for a game that you can use both monitors with. say like see behind you up top and regular down below. or commander screen up top and regular below.

                                (from one computer)
