    WinXP isn't going anywhere

    Even though XP was supposedly thrown another lifeline extending it's licensing deadline to July 31st of 2009, I really don't see it going anywhere, even if Win7 takes off after launch due to it's popularity with NETBOOK makers. Netbooks are all the rage and are probably part of the reason why laptops outsold desktops for the first time in history this past holiday season.

    If netbooks can run Quake Live....whenever it goes live lol, then you can sure as heck bet that more olde games like CS 1.6 get the online treatment thus slowing down overall transitions from XP to other operating systems.


    Does anyone here have a netbook and have they tried any type of flash based game that is graphics intensive?

      The current feature list appears to be a bunch of ui tweaks and fixes for some of the more dysfunctional properties of Vista. There will probably be additional layers of DRM infections built-in, so it'll be interesting from the aspect of a challenge to undo.

      It will be interesting to give the beta a test drive, though. I'm still curious about all the extra-extra-shiny rocks that DX10.x fanbois have been swooning over.

      Shoot. If they'd support Win2k a little better, that would make an awesome Vista upgrade :P

          I have heard great things about Windows 7 from the OCN people and believe me, they are hard to please.

          They say it's everything Vista should have been.

              I <3 Windows 7...its so fast..its so easy..lol...believe me..I'm not even getting payed to say that :P And also i must point out that i was on Windows Xp SP3 before win 7 but now i defoo think when it comes out I am SO getting Windows 7...Really cant wait for it..

                  Yep, Windows 7 is Vista not rushed. Weve installed the beta on machines Vista destroyed and they run great. Old machines too.

                  I love XP, but if 7 is really this nice and stable on release, even I will switch to it. Of course, if an OS is good, I usually am one of the first to switch to it anyway

                      Well Windows 7 should perform as fast or faster than Windows Vista on most decent machines, and of course it'll a lot faster than XP, so it should be good. I haven't tried the beta yet, but as far as I know the kernel and driver model haven't changed from Vista.

                      Even if Windows 7 wasn't on the horizon, there really is no reason to buy Windows XP instead of Windows Vista/Windows 7 unless you plan on sticking it on a really low end PC or a Netbook.

                          By the time Service Pack 1 came out, Vista was everything it should have been. There's just too many incompetent bloggers out there spreading false information about the operating system that made the general public THINK Vista wasn't what it should have been. Windows 7 seems to be Windows Vista with a fresh new User Interface and more attention to detail, and it should transcend above what Windows Vista brought to the table.
                          This is pure comedy gold....in the other thread where you want to argue with me, you challenged me with the insinuation that I have not used Vistas or Win7....and here you are, admitting that you haven't used it.

                          Here is why your argument fails.

                          Microsoft and it's operating systems are ENTERPRISE centric....at least they were up to Vista. Home users were an aftermarket and an after thought. The OS was designed for business use....which made it highly efficient and customizable. It just so happened that it was a great and solid platform for gaming...which greatly catered to the aftermarket, the home user.

                          With Vista, they reversed course and it failed...that why business never adopted Vista....and they may not adopt Win7 if it can't outperform XP Pro. Why would I need to update my workstations that run Office just fine when it might force a hardware upgrade as well? Economic times are tough. Businesses will take the path of least resistance.

                          I won't come out and say you are flat out wrong because that would diminish the reasons why we are here...I just tend to think that you need to open up to the bigger picture which will provide you with much more clarity.

                              All tests so far show Windows 7 ahead of XP.

                              In fact, most post SP1 Vista tests show the 64bit version ahead of XP.

                              But, real men run Linux Redhat lol!

                                  All tests so far show negligible differences between the 3.

                                  Win 7 gets 1 more frame per second in world in Conflict than in WinXP. Yes, that means Win 7 is faster than WinXP in one game. Is it a performance delta worthy of my money? Nope.

                                                  Anyway, what's better for a netbook, Ubuntu or XP, i can't really decide. I see the advantages of both.

                                                  Although, backtrack 3 might be an idea :p
