I'm not so stupid that I don't know that myself.
I'm not saying just keep waiting forever for the next best card. Just wait until you can buy a card with a significant improvement over the current G92 8' series cards.

There IS NO significant increase in performance from the 8800GTS (G92) to the 9800 GTX. This isn't a matter of debate. Its just a plain fact:

So are you telling us we should spend another $100 for an extra 3-8 FPS?

The G200/99** cards will be a new chipset and should be MUCH faster. That's only in a few months.

All charts aside..the main fact here is if your always waiting for the next best thing then you will never upgrade..its just a way of life for PC gamers. If you wish to wait then be my guest, as its only another upgrade with the next ones come out.

        I understand that!

        You ignored my point.

This upgrade has no better performance than an 8800GTS. So why buy the 9800 GTX when you can get an almost identical card for $100 less?

Its going to be that much of a significant update Sniper1432, as u have an 88 and quite frankly moving from an 88to a 98 is not that big of an improvement however if u were moving from lets say a6 or 7 series nvidia then yeah its reasonable as Alex has posted in another threat yesterday.

I disagree... many reviews show the reference version of the 9800GTX is inline with 8800GTXOCed cards. Thus putting the 9800GTX OCX for example by BFG at least 15% more in performance than the 8800GTS.

I know 3Dmark06 isn't really a game but you need numbers to admit your wrong..so check this sites review and look at the numbers... you can't ignore facts that the GTX and the GTX OCX are more powerful in performance than the 8800GTS Card. It may not be much from the 9800GTX and 8800GTS but its still higher, and my point is the OCX or overclocked versions right out of the box would be the choice to upgrade to as the prices are only about 30$ difference yet still cheap!

You know guys, you don't always have to have the very best of everything

I'm not planning to upgrade my computer until maybe in about 2 years or if I can't play a game I really want with reasonable framerates.

The upgrade cycle is what it is... I sold 3 parts the other day- a dual core processor,2gigs of ram and a motherboard... all for 939socket DDR ram.... now providing I would have waited even another 6months I wouldn't have gotten 500$ out of them all as I did but prob much less. There are periods when things will sell better at times vs others not to mention I upgraded those 3 parts to a Quad core, 775 board and 4gigs of very fast ram for the same amount without adding another dime to it.

My point is that it is pretty stupid to upgrade from an 8800GTS atm, even if it is the old version

Save the money or buy something you have better use for I think

naw its a worthy upgrade from the GTS...and even the Reference 8800GTX as I'm doing since the performance is high enough to justify it. If you have a Ultra now that would be a different story. Otherwise the market is just right for resales for the 8series cards along with the prices being really low for the 9800GTX's.

For most gamers here, buying a graphics card is a big deal, and to them, big money.

I think the majority here agree with me Sava.

From a 8 series card (8800+), the 9800gtx does not provide enough of a tangible benefit to justify the increased cost.

But your not looking at everything here... 9800GTX is the only thing you say.. you have OC's and OCX cards like BFG is providing which for a extra 20$ over the reference which isn't nothing is well worth it over the 8800GTS or GTX reference.. if you have a OCed version or the Ultra then no I would say hold out.

LOL no but I love the brand vs the others.. XFX is the next one I would choose if I had to.

I have not liked BFG ever since they gave me an awful 7600gt. Wouldn't overclock at all.

I'm however very happy with XFX 8800gts. It can hit a sweet 640mhz core :yay:
