    Re: Worth Buying?

I was going to get an XFX 8800GS, but it turned out that the fan they put on it couldn't have it's speed adjusted and was set at 100% all the time. So I went with the Galaxy 9600GT instead

      The 9600gt > 8800gs easily!

Yes, but at the time, the 8800GS was $108 and the 9600GT was around $149. I was lucky, because a day before I was going to buy the 8800GS, the 9600GT dropped to $129 :)

i agree with Alex on moving from an 88 to 98 as i did agree with hom on another thread, i mean if sniper had an 86 or a 7 series, sure a 98 would be nice as they sell on a good price.

I can overclock the hell out of my BFG 8800GT. Its already factory overclocked too. Over 640mhz for sure.

I don't have it overclocked since I only ahve a 1280x1024 display right now. 625mhz is good enough for that.

I can still get my GT up to 700... not quite as much, but still decent.

But I only bought mine because it was on sale more than the other cards at that moment. Got it for $207 I think back when the were mostly $250 still. I don't really care that much.

I tried overclocking my card from 675mhz to 720mhz and then to 750mhz but after running lots of benchmarks (Crysis, WiC, 3Dmark06) I noticed that it didn't do anything to my FPS

Well what resolution monitor are you using? If you're using 1280x1024 like me you wouldn't see any real increase. 750 is overkill on a 19" or smaller screen.

Its strange if you have like a 22" monitor though.

Well thats no reason to hate a card since its not supposed to "overclock" anyway..none of them are but hey we are back to that arguement so ohh well.

It was the OC version, and yet it couldn't hold its own any higher than the stock (pre-OC stock) clocks. I think maybe BFG played with the BIOS

yeah 19" 1280x1024, so I guess that explains it

So yeah... don't even bother overclocking unless you get a bigger monitor. :discomonkey:

                                FYI:

The new GeForce 9900 series, which will launch in the second half this year is expected to continue the adoption of the G92 design.
Just so yall know the next cards won't be much different than what your already able to get in the 9800GTX cards. But just as I said..if you always try to wait for the next best thing you would never upgrade and thats how PC Gaming is vs consoles and why PC Gaming will always give better results in performance based upon users whom upgrade with cycles.
