The Island

Much better than I thought. Interesting story and well made. Bit cheesy at times and rather predictable ending, but it didn't take away much from the film I think. It was rather long, but it felt like they could have fit in a lot more action in that time, a bit drawn out at times.

District 9 (from what I have seen in the trailer and clips) looks like Independence day + Transformers.. Not sure if that's a good or bad thing but I'll be seeying it soon as I can :)

District 9. epic.

Indeed. Just saw it, great movie. Some of the best effects I've seen in a movie.

And trust me, it's not just Independence day + Transformers. There is much more emotion and depth to District 9. Shows the evil side of humans and humanity in the aliens. Goes into issues regarding segregation and internment camps. There is a lot of stuff there to think about.

If you don't care about all that stuff though and just want to see things go boom, it'll satisfy you as well.

My admiration for Stanley Kubrick continues to grow. That man was a ******* guru.

I'm making a note to see District 9. Now is the time to have a movie that shows the true depth the sci-fi genre can offer, what with it surrounding Apartheid in South Africa and everything.
