    so in all you'll be gettin a crap system as DELL sux big time.
    an before any one starts to flame saying that they havent brought em out YES THEY HAVE.(i have friends that work for AW)
    AW was way to over priced for the product that you recieve.
    the only good thing about AW is the very nice looking case's.
    every thing thats in a AW you could build at a fraction of the price.
    try lookin on ebay for a AW case they go for about £50-100 just for the case,
    intotal thats where most of your hard cash goes (to the case).
    personaly i would build my own at a cheaper price an it would still wipe the floor with a alienware
    Anybody who follows the PC market even a little would know that Alienware sold out to Dell... you dont have to make up crap about having friends who work for the company to get your point across.

    It's OK to have friends that work at McDonalds...

      I would've just built my own instead of the same computer for $500 more. I guess it's good to buy one if you don't know anything about computers. Jesus... I just looked it up... it's $3000? I could've built 3 decent computers and 2 awesome computers with that much.

          Yeah but you wouldnt get their "awesome" warranty :p

          Hang on, 2 awesome computers you say? Hell, that means if one were to crap out you would still have one left while the other was getting a replacement part! Thats probably a quicker turnaround service than Alienware would ever offer!

            whats so awsome about there warranty's?
            i mean every single part you buy from a sales shop has a 6-12month ticket when purchased any way.
            the xfx nvidia cards have a life time warranty on certan parts.
            there is no way AW can be value for money.
            its people wit hto much cash to spend just buying them because of the name,
            dont get me wrong they look nice but at the price they charge its just daft.

              I bought a Alienware laptop a 2 years ago. Wish I never had. It was not designed well and plagued with problems. I had to reload the OS right out of the box. Customer Support (SUXS). I built 2 rigs from scratch and had them up and running quicker then when I tried to figure out how to get Alienware OS working from their poorly mislabled CDs. I yelled at Customer Service because after 2 hours on the phone being talked to like I was 3 and he was the "All knowning supreme Computer guy". I hung up and figured out how to get the thing working myself.

              Like others have said...you would have done better by building a rig yourself for 1/2 the price and when you do that you understand the workings a whole lot better and troubleshooting is so much more easier when something goes tits up!

                Yup its too late for you... Please any one else don't pay for a Name. The Ailien product is sound but hellish over priced. If you can game you can build a PC.

                I noticed its an X2.... You will see no gaming advantage from it what so ever.

                    Running an X2 myself. Although no gaming advantage I can Download stuff and run ALL Kinds of Junk while playing with my BF2 settings maxed to High and never see any lag or bog down.
                    That's the X2 advantage. Just have to set your Affinities right

                      Any Tips?

                      Send it back, save yourself a grand or two buy the parts and build it yourself.

                      More rewarding, ALOT cheaper and you are your own Tech Support instead of some (well meaning) Dell representative sitting in India somewhere.

                        Like I said I got the XPS system which is just as good as what he has posted with his specs.

                        We have Dell 3100's at work, about 8 of them and only 1 has ever had any problems and that was because some numpty at Dell forgot to actually clip the vid card in to the slot properly so when we plugged the monitor in nothing was happening yet there was power too it.

                        I decided to slide the side off the case and have a looksie and to my horror I saw the vid card hanging on by the skin of its teeth, so I slotted it in correctly and hey presto all better.

                        Maybe Dell in the US is worse than the Euro version of Dell? I have no idea where all the bad vibes for Dells come from as in 9 attempts from 9 orders apart from that 1 silly mistake everything has run awesome for me.

                          Why, oh why, must we always set CPU Affinity everytime we start the game? Is there a way I could write a batch file that sets it for me that is executed as soon as the game is loaded?

                            Tips:

                            1. Cancel your order and build your own like a man.

                            Yes there is a way:

                            I use a program called prioaff.

                            Here's the download:

                            Download it and create a folder in your root called prioaff and extract the 2 files there.

                            I use it to run BF2 to force it to run at normal priority on cpu 1 with the following short cut

                            C:\WINDOWS\prioaff\prioaff.exe 2 10 "C:\Games\Battlefield 2\BF2.exe" +menu 1 +fullscreen 1

                            To run on both cpu's at realtime priority

                            C:\WINDOWS\prioaff\prioaff.exe 3 11 "C:\Games\Battlefield 2\BF2.exe" +menu 1 +fullscreen 1

                            And to force it to run at realtime priority on cpu 1

                            C:\WINDOWS\prioaff\prioaff.exe 3 10 "C:\Games\Battlefield 2\BF2.exe" +menu 1 +fullscreen 1

                            To use different priorities change the number following the exe.
                            0 = Idle
                            1 = low
                            2 = normal
                            3 = realtime

                            Eg: C:\WINDOWS\prioaff\prioaff.exe 0 ( would run idle priority )

                            To pick what cpu / core it runs on change the 2nd number after the exe.

                            01 = run on cpu 0
                            10 = run on cpu 1
                            11 = run on both

                            Eg: C:\WINDOWS\prioaff\prioaff.exe 0 01 ( run idle priority on cpu 0 )

                            *WARNING* users of single cpu systems should never use the realtime priority if you do expect to do a hard reset.

                                I don't think he has friends that work at alienware either. I've known about the Dell buy out since March... Old news.

                                Who runs around with old news like that pretending they have some kind of inside information?
