1980 called, they want their drive back.
I think you're forgetting that in order to install Windows XP Professional on a RAID (or even larger than 120GB hdd) array of hard drives, you're going to need a floppy disk drive to install the drivers.

My tip: Return it and slap yourself for me.

An hour on google learning how to build a PC will save you over $500. Is $500 worth an hour of your time?

Nice system but I agree with most others here - you can build a similar system for less

There are multiple ways to work around this problem, try google. I know cause none of my friends have a floppy and they alll have xp raid set-up. Since this is bascially the ONLY reason why people would still have a floppy in their computer.

As to why it is the way it is? one word: Microsoft

Well. I don't mean to be, urgh, mean. But telling people you just got a system from Alienware is like telling your friends to check out you new Buick. It might be cool 10 years ago but not today. Even more so since it is part of DELL now.

I was told that this was not the case and that you can make a slipstream install disk for windows which will have all the required drivers so no floppy required

Have to say it is an impressive set up and hope that you have lots of fun playing on it hell if i had the money i would like to buy one just for the bragging rights and they always look so neat and tidy inside.

Overpriced - yeah but hell if you got the money and you cant be arsed to build one yourself why not

Send it back, save yourself a grand or two buy the parts and build it yourself.

More rewarding, ALOT cheaper and you are your own Tech Support instead of some (well meaning) Dell representative sitting in India somewhere.

                        Couldnt agree more.

Don't listen to all these people. If you felt comfortable building/configuring/tweaking your own system I'm sure you would have.

With that system you also bought support. If ANYTHING goes wrong you have support to call thats open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. That means ANYTHING. And if you have problems it's a ONE POINT contact for repairs.

I'll probably get flamed for that. The way I see it is that if you have the experience, tools and are comfortable building/doing something then by all means proceed. If not then it's probably better to have it done professionally.

I know it applies to plumbing :)

aleinwares are ok you can build one for much cheaper, it may not look as cooll but who buys pcs for their looks. I built one last summer P4 3.06 ghz, ati x800xl, 2 gigs of ram, 200 g hard drive, hp dvdrw with lightscribe. Pretty beasty ass comp. for the time. Cost to me 1100 dollars. How much is an alienware????
