    Yakuza Kiwami is an updated remake of the original Yakuza title, a game that was originally released back in 2006 in North America for the PlayStation 2. Right out of the gate, Kiwami can and should be considered more than just a simple remake. It feels more like an extension of the fantastic Yakuza 0 that came to North America earlier this year and less like a game that came out nearly ten years ago. Yakuza Kiwami delivers updated assets, visuals, and even completely redone Japanese voice work. Sorry, there are no English dubs here, which is for the best. The amount of work that went into bringing Yakuza Kiwami from the PlayStation 2 to the PlayStation 4 is nothing short of extraordinary.     Yakuza "Remake" Coming to Western Markets Next Summer; Yakuza 6 Coming in 2018

    Earlier today at PlayStation Experience (PSX), SEGA announced that a Yakuza "remake" is coming to western markets in Summer 2017. SEGA feels as though this is more than a remake and are calling this Yakuza Kiwami, where Kiwami apparently translates to "Extreme."

    What makes this particular remake so extreme? SEGA has completely recreated the visuals from scratch to run on the PlayStation 4 at 1080p and 60fps. There is also about 30 minutes of new cutscenes added to the game. SEGA provided this easy to see comparison with the original release from 2005.

    Yakuza Remake and Yakuza 6 Announced for PlayStation Platforms

    Sega announced a full remake of the first Yakuza title for both the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 last night at the Tokyo Game Show 2015. The game will include added scenarios and cinematics.

    The Yakuza remake is slated to be released January 21, 2016 for 6,490 yen.

    Sega also announced that they are developing a new entry in the franchise, tentatively called Yakuza 6. The game is slated to be released for the PlayStation 4 next Fall. The PS4 version of the Yakuza remake will include a demo for Yakuza 6. There was no word on a release coming to North America for either of these titles.
