  • Steam Will No Longer Run on Windows 7 or 8 after January 1, 2024

Steam Will No Longer Run on Windows 7 or 8 after January 1, 2024

It's far past time you updated from these unsupported operating systems.

This week, Valve announced that if you are running Steam on either Windows 7 or Windows 8, you are going to need to upgrade. Come January 1, 2024, Valve says that the Steam client will no longer run on those versions of Windows.

If you are one of the fewer than 2% of all Steam users still using either of these operating systems, it's beyond time you got around to moving on to something newer. Microsoft...

Microsoft Reveals World of Warcraft Now Runs on DirectX 12 on Windows 7

I really have no idea why Microsoft is promoting this news, yet here we are. A new MSDN blog post was put up today by Jianye Lu, program manager at Microsoft, that talks about how World of Warcraft is a DirectX 12 game running on Windows 7.

There are a lot of things simultaneously incredibly weird and incredibly interesting about this news. It marks the first major title to use DirectX 12 on Windows 7. That's pretty neat. However, DirectX 12 has largely been a Windows 10 exclusive...

Reminder: Steam to Ditch Windows XP Support on January 1, 2019

In case you forgot, or were simply unaware, Valve will drop Steam support for Windows XP machines beginning January 1, 2019. This more than likely doesn't really impact you unless you are one of the 0.11% that are still using Windows XP as of the November 2018 hardware survey. Of course, Microsoft ended support for XP back in 2014, meaning it has already seen four years without security patches.

Here is what Valve announced earlier this year about their Windows XP support ending....

For one full year after the release of Windows 10, Microsoft will be offering free upgrades for those on Windows 7, Windows 8.1, and Windows Phone 8.1. Microsoft made this reveal a short time ago today at their big Windows 10 media briefing today. Details are a little sketch on just how this program will work, however the reveal did note that this free upgrade will only be for a period of one year after the launch of Windows 10. With there being such a huge number of people still on Win...

DirectX 12 Will Not Appear on Windows 7

AMD's Chief Gaming Scientist, Richard Huddy, said that DirectX 12 will not be supported by Windows 7 and below. Huddy made this reveal while speaking at a PDXLAN presentation earlier this month.
"It's a very, very popular operating system.

"One thing that's not going to happen to it is DX12. Yup, DX12 is not coming to Windows 7."
This comes following a brief snippet where he notes that Windows 7 is still the most popular operating system at present, occupying 52% of all ...
