A watershed moment for VR gaming.

In the past several days, I have gone back and forth on what I wanted to write for the Half-Life: Alyx review. I have gone through several revisions and at least two full rewrites now. For the past several months now, we have offered up glimpses of the story-driven VR adventure title Journey for Elysium. We saw a game that had a unique visual style, the promise of a story that would take us all to an afterlife, a world filled with architecture inspired by Greek mythology, and mind-bending puzzles to solve. VR enthusiasts and VR hopefuls, I do hope you were sitting down when you read that headline. Valve announced the full details about their upcoming virtual reality headset that they're calling the Valve Index.

The Index now has an official release date, a full list of specifications, and even a set of confirmed prices. There are also a list of games that have been updated to include support for the new Index controllers. It's an impressive bit of hardware, without a doubt, but...

It's no real secret that Valve has been working on a new in-house first-party VR headset. Images of their development units were seen back in July 2018. Just this past week, a special page on the Steam Store was discovered that makes it very clear Valve is almost ready to start selling their VR hardware to the world.
