Season 4 of PUBG has a Backstory that Nobody Asked For

    This seems unnecessary.

PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds is a battle royale game that came out in 2017 as an Early Access title. In all this time, nobody once seriously questioned why 100 people were jumping out of an airplane to murder each other in remote locations. Apparently, somebody at PUBG Corp. finally raised that question because the game is getting a backstory for its upcoming fourth season.

It is every bit as unnecessary as you are probably imagining it to be. An official "Season 4 Cinematic Trailer" for PUBG opens with a shot of a boy. This boy is...

    Changes Coming to PUBG Matchmaking

    Faster, more fair matches.

A new post on Steam outlines PUBG Corp.'s plans to improve matchmaking in PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds. The gist of it is that they plan on creating a more fair playing field with this updated matchmaking system, while also attempting to reduce the wait times in certain regions.

Daegon Kim from PUBG's Matchmaking System Development Team provides a very lengthy and comprehensive explanation as to what the team hopes to accomplish with some of these changes. A shortened form of the post can be read below. If you'd like to see more details about...

PUBG Team Updates Community on Anti-Cheat Efforts

Today, the Playerunknown's Battlegrounds team provided a letter from the developer that talks about their ongoing anti-cheat efforts. Their letter covers a wide range of anti-cheat related topics such as how they have improved their cheat detection methods to their increases in taking legal action against cheaters.

The devs note that try to "maintain a much higher level of security than other games." Despite the devs saying that this is a "quick update" on their anti-cheat measures, it's actually quite the in-depth look at what they try to do to combat...

PUBG Teams Up with Tera and Resident Evil 2 in Bizarre Crossover Events

In a world where Tetris 99 exists, nothing in the world of battle royale surprises me anymore. Case in point: Today, En Mass Entertainment announced that there is a crossover event between TERA, an action oriented MMORPG, and PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds, the popular battle royale game not called Fortnite or Apex Legends.

This collab will run for an entire month beginning on March 5 for the PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. This event will find Tera players "dropping-in and engaging PUBG-style BAMs." I don't know what a "BAM" is.

Steam Reveals "Best of 2018" Lists

It's the end of 2018 and you know what that means? No, it's not that. Nor is it that. Ew, stop it. Alright, I'll just tell you instead. It's time for Steam's "Best of 2018" lists! You probably actually guessed that given the title, but that's besides the point. Valve has compiled some lists that take a look back at the games released in 2018. These include the top sellers for the year, the best VR titles, and more! Granted, most of these were probably just automatically compiled via Steam's stat tracking, but they're still fun to take a look at.

    The catch here is...

PUBG Arrives on PlayStation 4, New Snow Map Currently in Testing

A two-pack of PUBG news for you today. First up, the battle royale game hit the PlayStation 4 today. Nice. Secondly, PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds has a new map that is being tested on the PC today. It's called Vikendi and it's got snow.

Unfortunately for my friends that doubted me, it also has footprints that you can track and follow. Vikendi is available for testing right this second on the PC test servers. It will then be released to the public builds on December 19 for PC and January 2019 for the consoles.

Fortnite Crowned Game of the Year at 2018 Golden Joystick Awards

The annual Golden Joystick Awards gave out their annual awards this past Friday. None other than Fortnite took home the honors of being crowned the Game of the Year for 2018. Fortnite managed to beat out the competition in a year that included God of War and Red Dead Redemption 2 as part of the nominations. Ignoring the seemingly insignificant detail that Fortnite came out in 2017, the fact remains that the Golden Joystick Award winners are voted on by people like you and me. There's no committee that votes on the winners. The winners are selected by the general public, and the fact is there is a HUGE number of people playing Fortnite on...

PUBG Partners with FACEIT for Competitive Gaming

PUBG and eSports go together like, well, like two things that sort of go together but not quite and is only somewhat enjoyed by the masses but would maybe be accepted more if the presentation was better than it used to be? You know what I'm talking about.

That's perhaps why today's news about FACEIT and PUBG teaming up is probably a good thing to learn about.

On September 28, PUBG will be added to the FACEIT platform for Europe, North America, and South America. This essentially means that competitive players will have a structured place to keep track of progression and help them get noticed by professional teams. The upcoming...

But don't worry, it's only "temporary."

Late last night, the PUBG Corporation announced their FIX PUBG campaign. As you may have already figured by the name, this is a new initiative from the development team to focus hard on, well, fixing PUBG.

Ahead of Major eSports Event, PUBG Creator Says "We're Not eSports Ready"

Nothing promotes your upcoming major eSports event more than saying you are "not eSports ready." But that seems to be precisely how Brendan Greene, the creator of PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds, feels. This comes just as the PUBG Global Invitational is kicking off in Berlin, Germany.

Greene was asked what the PUBG Corp was doing to ensure that the game is ready for a major eSports tournament.

PUBG Corp Drops Lawsuit Against Epic Games and Fortnite

As fast as the PUBG lawsuit came so it went. PUBG Corp. has apparently dropped their lawsuit against Epic Games and the Fortnite Battle Royale game. Bloomberg notes that the lawsuit, which began in January and I could have sworn I put up a news post about, has been withdrawn from the South Korean court system in which it was originally placed. Neither PUBG nor their legal representation have issued a statement as to why the lawsuit was withdrawn but I would assume it was because they realized just how silly that lawsuit actually is. Epic also did not issue any statement about this new development. As Bloomberg con...
