Cherry Blossom Biome Coming to Minecraft

The new cherry blossom biome is coming in 1.20.

Mojang reveals that a new biome is coming soon to Minecraft. When the 1.20 update releases for the ever-popular game, a new cherry blossom biome will be added. This update is currently set to arrive "soon" for beta snapshot releases for both Java and Bedrock.

As the biome name implies, the cherry blossom biome will be filled with cherry blossom trees. These pretty pink trees will be home to a number of mobs and...

  • As Complaints Grow, Mojang Says They Won't Back Down from Minecraft's New Reporting System

The new system will let players report chat messages in multiplayer games, even in private servers.

A new user reporting system was just added to a pre-release build of Minecraft that has large swaths of the community crying foul. As part of this week's 1.19.1 update to Minecraft, this new reporting system allows players both on private, self-hosted servers and Mojang-hosted servers to flag inappropriate chat messages. These messages will then, allegedly, be reviewed by Mojang and...

Microsoft Makes Java and Bedrock Editions of Minecraft a Single Purchase

You can still play each version separately.

The tale of the two separate versions of Minecraft on PC is an odd one. A while back, if you had purchased the Java version of Minecraft prior to October 19, 2018, you were able to claim a free copy of the non-Java built Bedrock Edition for free. All you had to do was tie your existing Mojang account to your Microsoft account.

If you didn't own the game prior to that 2018 cutoff date, you could still get Minecraft, but you apparently...

A new, friendly mob was voted by the fans to become the next Minecraft addition.

Minecraft fans recently cast their votes to select a new mob that will be added to the game. This year's winner is Allay, a blue, flying spirit that will collect items for the player. Not only that, but Allay apparently loves to dance if there are active music blocks nearby.

Allay won the vote during this year's Minecraft Live event and was announced via Twitter. It was going up against two...

Minecraft is Far from Dead and this Sonic DLC Proves It

How well can a block do a spin dash?

Despite what one mentally stunted individual might be saying on Twitter these days, Minecraft is very much alive and doing quite well for itself. In fact, the game has never been more popular. It's also now the only place where you will be able to celebrate Sonic the Hedgehog's 30th anniversary in style (since Sega themselves won't have anything new until 2022).

Mojang and Sega have partnered up to create a special piece of Sonic themed...

Minecraft 'Caves & Cliffs' Update is Now Two Major Updates

The Caves & Cliffs update is now going to be two separate updates.

Mojang was planning to release a major update for Minecraft during the Summer season. It was a big Caves & Cliffs update that was planned that would make significant changes and additions to the game. Mojang has called it their "most ambitious" update for the game that they've ever developed. Sadly, that singular update has now been split asunder and will instead be released in two parts. One will...

Minecraft Earth to Close in June

A collaborative game plus COVID are a dangerous mix.

The augmented reality game for mobile devices, Minecraft Earth, is set to shut down in June 2021. The game was a bit like Pokemon Go but instead of catching cute creatures, you would come together as a community to build structures in the real world out of virtual Minecraft blocks. You would obviously not see them in the real world but you could easily see them through your phone's screen.

    Minecraft Earth was first announced...

The Nether Update for Minecraft is Out June 23

Big additions are coming to Minecraft.

For the most part, there isn't a whole lot that goes on in the Nether in Minecraft. The last I knew, it had some lava, some unique blocks, maybe a fortress here and there, but that was kind of it. On June 23, there might actually be a good reason to frequently visit the not-quite-hell dimension besides as an expressway to travel great distances.

June 23rd marks the release date for the big Nether Update for Minecraft. This update...

Six months later in the here and now that is May 2020, Microsoft reveals that the game sold another 20 million units to hit the incredible 200 million units sold mark.
