Metacritic to Finally Implement Better Moderation to Combat Review Bombing

Expect to start seeing these changes in the months ahead.

A long, long overdue overhaul to Metacritic's extremely lax moderation is finally being worked on following yet another round of "abusive and disrespectful" user reviews.

I will say upfront that this story will contain spoilers for the recently released Horizon Forbidden West: Burning Shores DLC. I would strongly advise you to stop reading right now if you do not want to have anything about that game spoiled...

Metacritic Finally Does Away with Day One User Scores

Perhaps done in an effort to suppress user score review bombing.

According to a new report by Paul Tassi, via Forbes, Metacritic seems to be doing away with allowing users to submit scores on games until at least a day after release. Tassi notes that user scores for the just released Ghost of Tsushima only has critical scores posted for the game. The user scores are currently showing a message that user reviews will be permitted starting July 18 at 12PM (PT).

    The message...

  • Critical Consensus: Crackdown 3, Far Cry New Dawn, Jump Force, and Metro Exodus

Tomorrow is a massive release day for games. For some reason, publishers and developers decided that people who play video games would need a lot of joy in their lives come February 15. I simply cannot fathom why.

Needless to say, there are four major titles being released tomorrow and the reviews for all of them are now in. Well, almost all of them. Though Anthem is also coming out tomorrow, it is only being released for those that have EA Access, Origin Access, or Origin Access...

Critical Consensus: God of War for PlayStation 4 is One of 2018's Best Games

The reviews for the new PlayStation 4 God of War started to come out early this morning and hot damn, it looks like it's a pretty good game. Alright, "pretty good" might be an understatement here because it's sitting at a 95 overall rating through OpenCritic and 94 on Metacritic. This places it in the top 0.1% of all games currently reviewed on OpenCritic. Both sites don't have any reviews that are lower than 80% as of the time of this posting. Let's see what some outlets that aren't...

Mass Effect: Andromeda Review Scores Sitting in the Mid-70s

It looks like the embargo on reviews for Mass Effect: Andromeda lifted earlier tonight. Both OpenCritic and Metacritic have their initial scores already in from a variety of outlets. At present, OpenCritic has Andromeda sitting at an average score of 75%. This is across all platforms.

Metacritic has the PC and PlayStation 4 versions of Andromeda at 73% while the Xbox One version somehow edges out an additional 3% to (currently) give it an average score of 76%. In general...

Nintendo Switch Sales Hit 80,000 Units in UK

Nintendo revealed that the recently released Switch hit 80,000 units sold throughout the UK in its opening weekend. To put that into perspective, that figure is double the number of Wii U consoles that were sold during its opening weekend in 2013. Sadly, it fell well short of the 113,000 figure mark that the Nintendo 3DS sold during its debut weekend. It also didn't come close to hitting the 150,000 units sold by the Xbox One launch or the 250,000 hit by the PlayStation 4 launch. The...
