World War Z the Game Based on the Movie Based on the Book is Out Today

If you have a hunger for brains some co-op zombie shooting, you may be happy to hear that World War Z is out today. This four-player co-op title will probably invoke some feelings of deja vu as you take on a ton of undead swarms as you make your way through each level. What I'm trying to say is that fans of Left 4 Dead will probably want to check this one out.

The game is, of course, inspired by the movie of the same name, which is inspired by the book of the same name. World War Z retails for $39.99 (USD) on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. it is also available for the PC exclusively...

Former Valve and Riot Devs Form New Studio - Stray Bombay

Chet Faliszek, formerly of Valve, and Dr. Kimberly Voll, formerly of Riot Games, have teamed up to create a new development studio.

In his time at Valve, Faliszek is credited for having worked on the writing for the Portal franchise along with bringing Left 4 Dead to the world. Voll is leaving her position as the principal technical game designer at Riot.

Faliszek shared a story that helped lead the two to form Stray Bombay. This is a story that he received...

Turtle Rock is Making a New Zombie Filled Co-op FPS Game

Turtle Rock Studios, the development studio that created Left 4 Dead and who eventually brought us Left 4 Dead 2 and Evolve (but let's not talk about that one) is working on a new co-op FPS. And just like Left 4 Dead, this new title will also include plenty of zombies.

The game is called Back 4 Blood (I see what they did there) and it will be published by WBIE. It's a bit early to say how this one will turn out since a lot of the old Turtle Rock kind of merged with Valve for a while there. We'll obviously be keeping our eyes on this one though.

    Turtle Rock has...

Review: Last Year: The Nightmare (PC)

A solid asymmetrical survival-horror game that's light on content.

Asymmetrical multiplayer games have been going steady for the past few years now. Some of the biggest games in that particular genre include the long departed Evolve, the still ongoing Dead by Daylight, and even Friday the 13th if you're into that sort of thing. You can now add in Last Year: The Nightmare to the mix as it combines 5 versus 1 multiplayer with elements of survival-horror. As with those other titles, Last Year places one player in the shoes of a bloodthirsty murderer while the rest of the players play as one of five teenagers trying to survive and escape. What it delivers is a well-crafted gameplay experience that ultimately comes up short on content. Last Year: The Nightmare relies on a number of tried and true horror movie clich├ęs. The group of teenagers include the nerdy kid, the popular girl, a stereotypical jock, and m...

    Review: Strange Brigade (PC)

It's the 1930s and you are one of four (five if you pre-ordered) unique individuals that make up the very fine, yet very bizarre, group known as the Strange Brigade. It's up to you to save the world from dastardly devils, unruly undead, and a bevy of bigger than life bosses. Just how do you accomplish this, you may ask? It's simple! You shoot, you loot, explore, and then you shoot and loot some more.

Such is the nature of Strange Brigade from Rebellion, the development studio that brought us the Sniper Elite franchise. Strange Brigade is a third-person action-adventure title that finds you and up to three additional friends making their way through vast levels located throughout Egypt. You will utilize an arsenal of weaponry and mystic powers to overcome foes brought back from the dead because the Witch Queen Seteki has returned after 4,000 years and wants to take over the world. Oh, that whacky Seteki. When will she...

  • Jim French, Voice Actor Known for Left 4 Dead, Dota 2, and Half-Life 2 Has Passed Away

Jim French, the voice actor behind Bill in the Left 4 Dead games, passed away on December 21 at the age of 89.

French brought a force and a life to Bill that immediately made him my go-to choice any time my friends and I played a game of Left 4 Dead. He continued to breathe life into Bill for a special mission in Payday.

French also provided the voice for Father Grigori in Half-Life 2. He was the lone Fisherman in Half-Life 2: Lost Coast. Dota 2 players will know him best as the voice of the Elder Titan. Back in 1959, long before acting in games was ever even a thought, French was a morning radio DJ for KIRO...

Portal Writer Erik Wolpaw Leaves Valve

Another amazing talent parted ways with Valve today. Erik Wolpaw, the writer best known for his work on the Portal games, both of the Half-Life 2 episodes, and Old Man Murray, has officially left Valve.

Wolpaw was also a co-writer for Left 4 Dead. Prior to his work at Valve, Wolpaw helped to write Psychonauts with Double Fine Productions. Back in 2004, Wolpaw was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis and planned to quit Valve as he wouldn't be able to fulfill his duties due to a worsening condition. Gabe Newell surprised Wolpaw by saying that his job was to "get better" and sent Wolpaw on extended leave with pay in order to recover...

Gabe Newell Says Valve is Working on a New Single Player Game and Source 2

Valve's Gabe Newell had an AMA today in the quasi-satirical r/The_Gaben subreddit. During his brief session answering community questions, Newell revealed that Valve might actually still be a game developer.

    Who knew?

Reddit user Baldemoto asked that which should not be asked to Newell. His response will shock you (assuming you missed the headline that you clicked on to read this news piece).
