    Half-Life 2 RTX Announced

    It looks real purdy.

Nvidia announced that they are taking what they learned with Portal with RTX and applying it now to Half-Life 2. Nvidia is calling it Half-Life 2 RTX: An RTX Remix Project. This is a move to add some modern visual technologies to the FPS that came out in 2004.

Nvidia pulled in developers from four of Half-Life 2's best mod teams. Together, under the name of Orbifold Studios, they are using the latest version of RTX Remix to add new tech such to Half-Life...

Half-Life 2 VR Mod Public Beta to Release in September

A mod that was at one point "all but abandoned" will finally see the light of day.

It has been in development by fans for about five years now, but at long last a VR mod for Half-Life 2 is about to be released. This September a public beta will begin from a group that calls themselves the Source VR Mod Team. This mod aims to bring the entirety of Half-Life 2 to the world of virtual reality.

The team released a new trailer for the mod this week. While it doesn't...

Parts of Half-Life 2 Are Playable in Portal on Switch

There's always more than meets the eye when it comes to Portal.

It was only a day ago when Valve released Portal: The Companion Collection on the Nintendo Switch. This compilation of both Portal and Portal 2 offered Switch owners a chance to play these classics for the first time on a Nintendo product.

It took less than a day of availability before people found out that significant chunks of Half-Life 2 were tucked neatly away in the files for Portal. The discovery was...

Noclip Gives Us a Long Look at Canceled Half-Life 2: Return to Ravenholm

This is the longest look yet at the canceled Half-Life 2 spin-off from Arkane and Valve.

Back in 2006 and 2007, Arkane Studios (Dishonored, Prey) was working on a Half-Life 2 spinoff title called Return to Ravenholm (or simply Ravenholm). Development on the game began at Junction Point Studios between 2005 and 2007 with a team led by Warren Spector. The idea was to create a spin-off episode that would explain the backstory of the trap filled Ravenholm and Father Grigori.

'The Hidden' Game Mode Coming to Pavlov VR

Fans of The Hidden: Source have reason to rejoice.

Once upon a time, there existed a Half-Life 2 mod called The Hidden: Source. It actually began life as a mod for the original Half-Life before a new team brought it to Source. Technically, the mod still exists now but it hasn't been updated in years. For a time, it was hugely popular and still manages to have a handful of dedicated players these days.

In The Hidden: Source, one person played as "The Hidden,"...

  • Review: Half-Life Alyx is VR at Its Finest

Review: Half-Life Alyx is VR at Its Finest

A watershed moment for VR gaming.

In the past several days, I have gone back and forth on what I wanted to write for the Half-Life: Alyx review. I have gone through several revisions and at least two full rewrites now. It's not that I am at a loss for words. It's more that I just have too much that I want to say. I want to go on and on about how neat this sequence was or how refined this aspect was. The result of that review was just some rambling word salad that made for a poor reading...

Official Half-Life: Alyx Release Date Announced

Valve has announced a solid release date.

Ever since Valve announced Half-Life: Alyx back in November 2019, they maintained that the game would be out at some point in March 2020. That fairly vague release window did not sway over the past four months now, which was either very reassuring that Valve Time wouldn't kick in, or anxiety inducing because you just wanted the delay announcement to come. OH GOD JUST GET IT OVER WITH ALREADY!

    Thankfully, that delay announcement...

  • No Foolin' - Valve Just Gave Every Steam User the Half-Life Collection for Free Until April 1

I used my best quip in the headline.

As part of the lead up to the release of Half-Life: Alyx, Valve just made every game within the Half-Life Complete collection available for free. This freebie is for every single Steam user, but there is a small catch.

The free period lasts from now through to April 1, 2020. That's still about two and a half months worth of play time that they're giving you, which is plenty of time to play Half-Life, Half-Life 2, Half-Life 2: Episode...

Half-Life Alyx Reveal Trailer, 4K Screens, and Release Date Announced

    Valve is back.

It's been over 12 years. 12 years since the last Half-Life game was released. While it may not be Half-Life 3, Valve did today reveal Half-Life Alyx to the world. This is a new VR title for the PC that is set between the events of Half-Life and Half-Life 2.

Valve is straight up calling this a "full-length" game that just happens to require a VR device to experience. Pre-orders are available now, months ahead of the game's currently planned release...

Hey, Valve Just Announced a New Half-Life Game

Half-Life: Alyx is a flagship VR game from Valve.

  • Jim French, Voice Actor Known for Left 4 Dead, Dota 2, and Half-Life 2 Has Passed Away

Jim French, the voice actor behind Bill in the Left 4 Dead games, passed away on December 21 at the age of 89.

French brought a force and a life to Bill that immediately made him my go-to choice any time my friends and I played a game of Left 4 Dead. He continued to breathe life into Bill for a special mission in Payday.

French also provided the voice for Father Grigori in Half-Life 2. He was the lone Fisherman in Half-Life 2: Lost Coast. Dota 2 players will know him...

Portal Writer Erik Wolpaw Leaves Valve

Another amazing talent parted ways with Valve today. Erik Wolpaw, the writer best known for his work on the Portal games, both of the Half-Life 2 episodes, and Old Man Murray, has officially left Valve.

Wolpaw was also a co-writer for Left 4 Dead. Prior to his work at Valve, Wolpaw helped to write Psychonauts with Double Fine Productions. Back in 2004, Wolpaw was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis and planned to quit Valve as he wouldn't be able to fulfill his duties due to a worsening...
