  • Valve Fully Expects Someone Will Mod VR Out of Half-Life: Alyx

Valve Fully Expects Someone Will Mod VR Out of Half-Life: Alyx

The question is: What will be lost in translation?

Half-Life: Alyx was just released and with it has come a heap of praise from those with VR headsets along with a heap of complaints from those who are against the mere idea of virtual reality. If you are expecting Valve to release a official version of the game that strips out the VR aspect, you are most certainly barking up the wrong tree. Half-Life: Alyx was built around VR, not the other way around. To release a version of the game...

    Half-Life: Alyx is Now Available

A new Half-Life game is actually here!

Wow, who could have seen this coming? We finally have a new Half-Life game being released! Valve has just flipped the switch for every VR owner on Steam and Half-Life: Alyx is now released. It's the first Half-Life game released in 13 years. Let that sink in for a little while as Alyx decrypts in the background.

Half-Life: Alyx is available now on Steam for $59.99 (USD). I'm going to do something I don't normally do during the day:...

Three New Half-Life: Alyx Gameplay Videos Shared by Valve

Three videos showcase almost 10 minutes of new gameplay.

Valve is starting to ramp up their Half-Life: Alyx media coverage. Today, the development studio released three brand new gameplay videos for their upcoming VR-only title, Half-Life: Alyx.

These videos show off a variety of environments and gameplay mechanics. In addition, it also shows off the different ways in which players will be able to move around the environments in their virtual play areas.

Official Half-Life: Alyx Release Date Announced

Valve has announced a solid release date.

Ever since Valve announced Half-Life: Alyx back in November 2019, they maintained that the game would be out at some point in March 2020. That fairly vague release window did not sway over the past four months now, which was either very reassuring that Valve Time wouldn't kick in, or anxiety inducing because you just wanted the delay announcement to come. OH GOD JUST GET IT OVER WITH ALREADY!

    Thankfully, that delay announcement...

  • No Foolin' - Valve Just Gave Every Steam User the Half-Life Collection for Free Until April 1

I used my best quip in the headline.

As part of the lead up to the release of Half-Life: Alyx, Valve just made every game within the Half-Life Complete collection available for free. This freebie is for every single Steam user, but there is a small catch.

The free period lasts from now through to April 1, 2020. That's still about two and a half months worth of play time that they're giving you, which is plenty of time to play Half-Life, Half-Life 2, Half-Life 2: Episode...

Xen Chapter Released for Black Mesa

Black Mesa is now a complete game.

It's a Christmas miracle. After literally years of delays, an incomplete mod release, over four years in Early Access, multiple delays for Xen itself, and countless changes made over years, Black Mesa is now a mostly complete game on Steam. That's right, the team finally released Xen for Black Mesa.

The Black Mesa development team released the missing Xen content that has been absent from the Black Mesa release for years now. The game...

Black Mesa Xen Chapter Finally (Kind of) Playable

    11 years and counting.

The Black Mesa team has finally released a playable taste of the Xen levels that they have been working on for however long now. Actually, Black Mesa has been in development since 2008 after being announced in 2005. So, depending on how you look at it, it's been in some sort of development phase for anywhere between 11 and 14 years now.

The mod version of Black Mesa did come out back in 2012. It wasn't until 2015 that an Early Access release of the...

Black Mesa: Xen Trailer Revealed, Release Almost a Year Away

The Black Mesa team finally released a trailer for the Xen portion of their long in-development game. As you may recall, Black Mesa was "released" in a rather incomplete stage. I say "released" because even though it was added to Steam back in May 2015, it's still listed as an "Early Access" title. I also say "released" because the entire Xen portion from the original Half-Life wasn't included. But it's now 2018 and we finally have our first actual trailer for the Xen component. The good ne...

Gordon Freeman Returns from the Dead in Final Fantasy XV Windows Edition

Square Enix announced today that a demo for the PC version of Final Fantasy XV is coming on February 26. This demo will include the entirety of Chapter 1 from the game and will be downloadable through Steam, Origin, and the Windows 10 Store. Sure, fine, whatever. A demo? Great! But what's really important here is the fact that if you purchase the game through Stream from now until May 1, you will bring Gordon Freeman back from the dead. At the very least, you'll be wearing Gordon's we...

Black Mesa Devs Delay Xen Again But at Least They Added God Rays

Oh look, Black Mesa announced another delay. This is totally shocking and unexpected. Xen is delayed (again). Oh no. Surprising. Etc.
Straight to the bad news: we are pushing back the release of Xen. We are truly sorry for getting everyone's hopes up and then delaying... again. We worked very hard to make December, but we are not yet ready. As a team, we take FULL responsibility for that. We have an internal deadline we are confident in, and we will be getting everyone more details

Gabe Newell Says Valve is Working on a New Single Player Game and Source 2

Valve's Gabe Newell had an AMA today in the quasi-satirical r/The_Gaben subreddit. During his brief session answering community questions, Newell revealed that Valve might actually still be a game developer.

    Who knew?

Reddit user Baldemoto asked that which should not be asked to Newell. His response will shock you (assuming you missed the headline that you clicked on to read this news piece).
Baldemoto: Hello Mr. Newell, I asked other users what they w
