From today (January 17) through to January 23, players on the PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One can download and play the Blackout game type from Call of Duty: Black Ops 4. As a quick reminder, Blackout is the battle royale mode that was introduced this year to the Call of Duty franchise.

If you've been sitting on the fence about The Evil Within 2, now would be a good time to check it out. There is a free trial for The Evil Within 2 on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC that allows you to play through the game's opening chapters.

If, at the end of the trial, you want to purchase the full game, all of your save data will carry over. The opening chapters contain a mix of the game's more linear sections as well as the first open area of Union where you can freely explore.

Final Fantasy XIV seems to be doing quite well for itself still. Square Enix said today that the MMORPG has surpassed 10 million players from around the world. Well, to be specific they do note that it's 10 million cumulative players and that that number does include those who have played a free trial. Still though, it's a big number.

2K and Gearbox announced today that Battleborn now has a free "trial." It is being unceremoniously called Battleborn: Free Trial and it grants unlimited access to the competitive multiplayer and maps all without time limits, level caps, or any planned end date. Yes, they have very carefully not called it "free to play" in their announcement. So I guess Pitchford can still be "technically" correct about the game not going "F2P."

So this "free trial" differs from being a full "free to play" in what way? Well, it seems as though the trial has a rotating cast of six free characters to play, including the same account progression as the full game.
