Surprise!

Valve is still being sued by New York Attorney General Letitia James. The lawsuit, filed in February 2026, accuses Valve of "promoting illegal gambling and threatening to addict children through its use of 'loot boxes'." James and the state of New York is seeking "full restitution" for players, claiming that "loot boxes pose the same dangers as casino gambling, especially for children."

Been a while since we did one of these.

Valve pushed out a small update for Counter-Strike 2 today. As this one wasn't made super late, as most of their updates have been, I figured I'd pass along the news.

The update seems to just include a few fixes to the game, namely for some issues on the newly released Cache map. There really isn't too much else to say here. ...

Why though?

Valve just made one of the biggest gameplay changes ever to Counter-Strike since the addition of the riot shield. As of today's update for Counter-Strike 2, Valve made it so that when you reload your weapon, you will drop the used magazine and discard all of its remaining ammo.

Previously, and this was the case for literal decades now, when you reloaded your weapons the ammo was just dumped back into a total "pool" of ammo. Sure, it wasn't realistic...

Children as young as 13 admit to gambling on Counter-Strike.

A vastly overhauled version of de_train (Train) was just added to Counter-Strike 2 today. This release not only makes obvious visual changes and improvements to the classic Counter-Strike map but it also makes some significant changes to the layout. Looks like Valve just released a little update for Counter-Strike 2. Valve has a tendency to release their updates a little later in the day, so it's a rare treat when I see an update for Counter-Strike and it's still daylight here.

Today's update isn't particularly big or exciting though. It's more of a minor bug fix update. It is what it is.

Custom maps are now easily accessible in Counter-Strike 2.

Slowly but surely, Counter-Strike 2 is being improved. The latest update for the game added in Steam Workshop support for custom maps. This will allow map makers to upload their maps to the Workshop. Community servers can also host these maps on their servers. Players can also optionally play these custom maps offline by subscribing to them and heading to the Play menu.

Setting your mouse DPI settings too high? That's a ban.

Valve Anti-Cheat (VAC) hasn't been doing too hot lately. First, the anti-cheat issued bans to those using AMD's Anti-Lag+ feature in Counter-Strike 2. Now, VAC is issuing bans for setting your mouse DPI too high.

The issue with Anti-Lag+ was due to how AMD implemented the feature into a variety of games. It altered or hooked into game files, which is a big no-no when it comes to playing games that are supported...

Heed their warnings or run the risk of a VAC ban.

The latest driver release from AMD, version 23.10.1 (dated October 11, 2023), could potentially get you VAC banned from Counter-Strike 2. These newest drivers from AMD allow players to turn on AMD's new Anti-Lag+ feature in Counter-Strike 2. Anti-Lag+ being a way to reduce latency in games, similar to Nvidia Reflex.

Valve took to Twitter to plainly say that if you have these new drivers, you should not enable Anti-Lag+...

There just isn't enough players to justify it.

On October 9th, Valve flat out said that they have no plans for a macOS release of Counter-Strike 2. Part of the reason is because there just weren't enough people playing the game on macOS to warrant continuing support for the platform with their new release.
