I am hoping and praying for option 2! All in all i cant see picking up bf2142 for 50 bucks...just not that big on the future thing.
Option #2 right here. I was so hard up on CS and CS:S for the team play part then found BF2 by accident and was instantly hooked. I've played CS since beta 6.5 and that was a long time ago. But hackers really have ruined that great game and hopefully the majority of them will stay there. Thank God BF2 takes a very decent machine to play on.

Keep making new games, I'll keep buying them... Bugs and all, it's still the best :)
        I agree.

Its really disappointing how the purely negative posters are winning on this forum. This thread is pretty depressing. Its almost as if there's a cachet to expressing totally negative opinions. Ok, there are bugs and problems with BF2 - WE GOT IT.

It stands to reason that most of you ****** are still enjoying the game on some level because I don't know bout you but I don't see a lot of posts on the Tribes:Vengeance forum.

The point I've tried to make: This community is huge, and those that complain and whine are sadly the majority. I don't have any "performance" issues with the game anymore, DICE fixed them.

I don't have CTD problems anymore, DICE and a hardware upgrade fixed that. Hell, Oblivion was released yesterday and people are complaining about CTD errors, yet I haven't had a single issue with the game (quite amazing actually when you play it, I recommend it!)

Your point was very clear; the ones that complain about how the game sucks STILL play the game. Don't play the game if you don't like it, and don't buy BF 2142 if you don't think it'll be worth your money.

If only they could write something simple like some posters: "I don't like futuristic combat, I won't spend anymore money on an EA/DICE game because of this". That is valid, because it is a opinion and valid comment: he/she doesn't like futuristic combat! Simple, effective and valid.

          Good times!

          PEACE

How about signing a petition, name list or whatever and sending it to EA/DICE? It won't help of course but it might make us feel a little better?

LOL, what would the petition say?

"Please I don't like your new game idea, please don't make this game and instead devote BOTH your swedish and canadian development teams to making BF2 exactly how I want it."

PEOPLE THEY ARE STILL WORKING ON BF2!...THEY SAID SO IN THE PRESS RELEASE!! IT IS TOTALLY STUPID, IMPRACTICAL AND UNREALISTIC TO EXPECT A COMPANY TO DEVOTE TWO DIVSIONS, AND HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS TO "PREFECTING" AN ALMOST PERFECT GAME WHICH HAS BEEN OUT FOR MORE THEN A YEAR, AND IS NOT GENERATING REVENUE".

I personally think you guys are nuts, BF2 is as good as it is gonna get IMO, and the only way to make it interesting for most people is to add new content to the series/engine whatever.

Why aren't u all mad at the modders for creating mods of a game that "isn't finished"....there is NO difference between what EA is doing and what a mod team is doing. Creating new content from the BF2 engine.

The fact that it costs money is irrelevant

They need to move on....create new content...and make new games, that is what drives the industry and gives 99.9% of gamers satisfaction.

              GOSH!...FLIPPING...BAH!!

                Re: Battlefield 2142 Confirmed

I'll start a petition to DICE so they can create a Mech game, that's it. :)

Some of the people's argument is that this will be a "mech" or "invisible" camping effort...you know, because they "know" how this game will play and can see the future of this game. "Speculation killed the idiot"

If anything, there will be an overall limit on what the "invisibility" kit can do, like a "saboteur" with no real good weapon. Obviously I am speculating, but it's to prove that ANYTHING can and will be the result of this game. The whole Mech thing, I don't know, but from that video's perspective, they show me that the aerial attack seems to have disabled the mech in no time.

There will be an order in which this game will play out, I guess you can compare to an eco-system: infantry < transport/vehicle < mech/tank < aerial vehicles, as it is in the present Battlefield lineage: infantry < jeep/transport/trans. helo < tank/APC < helicopters(attack) < fighters/bombers

All this is speculation, but I find it productive as it inclines ones concept on how the game "may" be played. For all we know, co-op vs. A.I. might be the "main" component to the game, and the multiplayer will be left like BF2 and its predecessors. If this be the case, then the "infantry" fans will have what they want: an easy game that even they can adapt to!

I agree to some levels of it. But yes we are enjoying it, just getting frustrated.

Im still curious to know why my post was pulled about my comments of EA and Sony. I seldomly post but when I do I like to have some weight behind it, and to be monitored and out of all the negative posts thrown up mine was pulled. I wasnt bashing just stating the obvious to see how strong the community felt about it. I guess I hit a nerve.

If there is more negative comments than positive its for a reason. If you delete the ones with much thought put into them then your nullifying the reason to have forums. How is EA suppose to better there games if we only show them what they want to see? Geez... politics even in the gaming world. I did give TotalBF2 props and praise on the post that mysteriously disappeared.

Oh well, I did mean what I said keep up the good work but careful on how you dictate what your readers can and cannot handle. Maybe let the poster know your going to pull there post and maybe a reason why would've been nice.

Just don't buy the game. Buy Medal of Honor #8000 or whatever.

I got irritated reading all these negative posts.

I have a suggestion - don't play. leave me and all the other people who are enjoying it to enjoy it.
As far as it being futuristic - why does anyone care. I played 1942 a lot - it was great, now BF2 - it's great as well. BF2142 will be the same concept but with more variety. What is the big deal.

                      Rack'em had it right.

Also - I think most of you would still complain even if it was free.

And as far as specualtion goes

DICE balanced out BF2 and 1942 - why wouldn't they balance out the new one.

                        Re: Battlefield 2142 Confirmed

You guys are right, BF2 is like a beta to this BF2142, so you can hardly say that it's going to have all the bugs! The gameplay issues from BF2 will no doubt be fixed for BF2142 (correcting things in BF2 now will make problems, adding them in 2142 is like a clean slate). I can see this game going really far and I'll definetely get it. If it's a let down, well BF2 isn't going anywhere. I wish you guys would stop complaining about a pre-alpha game. It's coming out in at least 6 months. Get a grip.

                          Re: Battlefield 2142 Confirmed

I think this is a bit of a stretch for the Battlefield series. I'm not going to jump to conclusions and say this is going to be (good/bad) but consider some of the arguments:

The first, and most obvious, is why go futuristic in the first place? Yes, I can see a trend.. we have World War 2, the Vietnam Conflict, and Modern warfare set in a non-historical (hypothetical) war, and a practical trend would be to go further into the future? right? well.. to a degree. I believe you can create a well rounded BF game set in the future without jumping over 100 years on the time line.

Another Argument could be the realism factor. As I'll bring to your attention once more, were talking about a game set well over a century from present day. not even 50 years ago, the popular concept of the year 2000 was that of the commonality of flying cars, anti-gravity, intelligent humanoid robots, teleportation, energy weapons, and more of the like. Now, six years into the new millennium we see very little, if any at all of the listed innovations. I'll get to the point. Every Battlefield game has been comparable to something in real life, they can attempt to build solid game-play off scalable military weapons, vehicles, munitions, and other standing technologies, when you jump 130 + years into the future, the most you are working with is speculation and the general ideas of others.

The last argument I will point out is the genre change. I think most of us can agree, all of the Battlefield titles fall between the lines of a Military First Person Shooter. It can be argued that this jump into the future can place BF2142 into more of a Science-Fiction category. And I probably don't have to remind you, but I know SiFi style games evoke a sort of love-hate reaction.
I personally don't mind SiFi games, I enjoy games like the Unreal series, Half Life, Halo, and Star Wars titles, but as a customer of EA, and a Fan of the Battlefield series, I have grown to want, and expect a certain style of game if the box carries the name "Battlefield" I feel BF 2142 is taking a step away from this.

Personally, I would like to see more BF games set in modern warfare. I would like to see a larger variety of maps, from alpine forests, to jungle, to snow, to large cities with interior buildings. Above all, I would like to see a BF game mostly focused Infantry combat, steering away from vehicular domination, More weapons, effective damage models, less shot dispersion, better ballistics, more dynamic kits, and a higher level of realism. you get the picture.

                            Re: Battlefield 2142 Confirmed

I love the fact that all these people are complaining about BF2 not being what it should be, not being patched/fixed yet and not being the game they think it should be BUT they are still here, bitching about EA and still playing the game.

Get a life people! The mods will succeed because of people like you, people that want to play the mods. The new game will succeed because people who aren't the up most die hard fans of BF2 will want to change to something else and bring people who don’t like the semi-realistic war games.

I still prefer BF1942 over BF2, don't get me wrong the engine in BF2 is better but I like the older weapons and time more. This is why I will support the mods but I will also try the new game and I will also try the new Quake game when it comes out.

I play computer games and I don't get stuck bitching and pretending I have some type of power to boycott a game when I have no power at all. Boycott all you want, that will not stop the game from being released, it will not stop DICE/EA from supporting it and another community from forming around it.

Don’t forget people that EA is about making money, just like a lot of you; that’s why we go to work. Wake up and live in the real world and not your computer fantasy.

                                Joehadenuf-MOH-,

Welcome and I like your post. Very promising for this community.

I can see where you would want the original feel of Battlefield and its relation to "realism".

I feel that BF 2142 will not be for everyone, and I might not even like it. I don't think however that this will be the end of what you enjoy as Military Shooters, I think it's simply another attempt by EA/DICE to see and test what the community wants. Every company needs to adapt to a changing game market, and with the current next-gen systems and promises we are seeing right now and in the near future, it's not unlikely for them to reach out and possibly venture into seperate avenues.

All to say that despite the release of BF 2142, the fact that DICe had been working on the game since the release of BF2 states that they are ready to provide those within the community a hint of hope, BF2 isn't going anywhere, and neither are their concepts for future games.

Statements like yours and the people agreeing to your ideas is what EA/DICe need. They can relate to ideas and hopes within the community. They wouldn't want to infringe on those that made them who they are.

BF2 and its mods will be around for a long time, and BF 2142 will be tested and proven by knowing what people want. If they see a trend for the future sci-fi genre, they will follow it.

I doubt they will forget about those that made them the success they are today, nor do I think they will want to infringe on their commitment to please the people like me and you, the fans with something to say. Ain't the Internet great?
