    Re: Community Update

We're beginning to cut out the middle man and I am glad we are making applications that really start to make use of broadband. Take note of what Valve has refined the program Steam and is now starting to bank off of it with small mods and stuff being sold/downloaded over Steam. A majority of computer users are on broadband, sorry to the minority but majority rules the house.

I haven't been able to play BF2 last month because of long work hours and hardware MB & Video Card compatibility issues. But I am gonna buy this expansion and maybe squeeze in an hour of play a day. I hope you all are not this cheap in real life; the amount of time that $10 buys you on the computer is really worth it and look at how much other things cost you outside the house just for maybe an hour of enjoyment. Now if you are under age and cannot buy it over the internet, than that is a poor opinion by a customer/user.

I wonder if you’ll have to leave the EA “downloader” program running in the background, I really don’t need another program leeching my system performance from me.

I can see they’re trying to push people into a steam type application with this thing, I'm not sure I feel comfortable with an EA server browser/content delievery system/marketing spamming program.

        Another sellout tactic from EA...

"I know! We'll put the booster maps in regular servers so people will HAVE to buy them or get dropped from the server every second map!"

I really doubt you will need to keep it running. Unlike steam, the games will run off their own systems, and playing the games won't require you to constantly validate your ownership of the game. Half-life games run off the steam network, BF2 doesn't run off the downloader program's network.

Most likely, there will be servers that run the booster packs and regular maps, some that run only booster packs, and some(Read:Many) that don't run the booster packs at all.

So if you don't want to disconnected, you can play on servers that don't run the boosters at all. I think the feature is more for people with the packs, who can play a variety of maps while the booster is installed, not for regular people to play until the booster comes, though it will be possible.

bloody awesome, this patch is looking even more awesome and about the booster packs how the maps will be included into regular map rotation, this should be good, also what some of you ppl dont realise is EA is a BUSINESS, how are they going to make money...by putting in little schemes, IE: SF unlocks in BF2 made u wanna buy SF so u had more unlocks in Vanilla, and now booster pack maps in regular vanilla servers so you hav eto buy those aswell, I say good thinking EA very sneaky:p but well thought out , although this is a bummer for some ppl, I for one love the BattleField series and will continue to buy the BattleField series (including Expasion packs/booster packs) unless it gets too expensive, com'n ppl its only $10

You don't need to leave EA downloader running for SF, I doubt you will with the Booster Packs.

What about everyone who doesnt buy Euro Forces, they will get kickt every time a server changes to a euro forces map, another indirect way for EA to force every one to buy it,

But it's just 80 bucks, if this money helps improving the game, i will be more then happy paying it to them. and so i will, the 8th feb...

                        Re: Community Update

Some ppl already brought up a good point, that its only $10. I will agree that nowadays I find more enjoyment with BF2 / SF than I do by spending $8.50 to see a stupid movie. I think we can all agree that money spent on BF2 is a good investment for the amount of time we spend.

However, you look at HL2 / CSS and you see the addition of new maps / levels / content and am amazed. They have done it right and are STILL doing it right. They just added a map last night for CSS with HDR built into it, and it was not cost to the end user.

So yes, I see value in a purchase but I also think that sustained improvements for free ie patches / a few new maps are necessary for Vanilla users.

I just wish their patches were smaller and released on a more frequent basis. I really like how HL2 continually tweaks their games and keeps them stable at the same time.

FYI: try Goldeneye Source a HL2 mod, its great!

I'm pretty sure it has already been stated that the boosters will be downloadable, and not have a retail version.
It will only be downloadable, but in some countries you will be able to buy it from the stores; the box won't contain a cd but will contain a code allowing you to download the booster pack.

IMHO, Dice sold out. The original BF1942 audience (which were spoiled by content such as these boosters at no extra charge) are scratching their heads wondering why they changed their tactics?

The only conclusion I can come to is that they sold out.

Wohoo! Best news about the booster packs yet. :)

Only think I'm wondering is how they're going to make sure people aren't pirating the boosters.. But I'm sure they've solved that somehow.

Yeah I am glad to hear the news about the Boobster Pax as well. I wasn't to crazy to get them if they were gonna be considered as other mods, etc.

But now since they will be in regular rotation with BF2 Vanilla maps, I will have to make friends with Mr. EA Downloader.
