Re: Patch 1.03 Released!
I don't have a problem with the newly beefed up AA. However, I have a major problem with the innaccurate as hell air to air missiles. The J-10 (and most other aircraft) can still bank sharply enough to avoid being hit by a missile. While I feel that should happen maybe 25%-50% of the time, it happens roughly 90% of the time still. I haven't noticed a difference since the new patch was installed. I'm not sure why they'd improve AA but keep the air to air so poor. It still takes flares very little time to reload on choppers and it's still insanely hard to hit a jinking chopper with an air to air missile. They should improve that system by making it harder to get a missile lock but making them far more accurate when you do attain lock.
Has anyone noticed that choppers appear to be made of glass when you hit them with a mounted 50 cal? I've dropped attack helos in one or two seconds. If they're going to make every other weapon so effective against the choppers, I say give the choppers back their ability to yaw quickly and give their staight rockets more splash damage instead of the nerfed ones they have now. Currently, choppers are death traps for even good pilots.
The server browser is better than it was before but it still sucks compared to any other game out there. I'm noticing that you can't check populated and not full without the browser returning no results. If you go back and uncheck many of your options, you can get a populated list again. I don't understand why this is such an issue. Dice have made working browsers in the past. Why are they having so much trouble with their FLAGSHIP series?
I had high hopes for Wake Island. I loved it in 42 but I am not very pleased with the current version. The map is insanely vehicle heavy. It fealt much more chaotic than the other maps. It will be fun once in a long while but I won't be heading over to any of the new Wake 24/7 servers.
I'm not sure how I feel about only one passenger in a vehicle being able to count toward capping a flag. To me, if you want to fix the blackhawk whoring, all you need to do is remove the ability of the engineers to fix the blackhawk from inside of the vehicle. Make them get out to fix the chopper. Leave the ability for multiple passengers to cap a flag but present them with the reality that you can easily down a blackhawk and we'll see how many people want to BH whore. It was a nice try to fix an obvious problem but I think it's the wrong solution.
Last complaint. I'm still noticing that you die very easily when hit by certain vehicles in certain ways. I ran up to a tank on Wake last night and stood next to the tread in the rear of the tank. Just to clarify, I was not behind the vehicle, I was next to it. I pulled out C4 and as I went to plant it, the tank rolled forward (essentially away from me) and I dropped dead. Later in the same round, I rammed an enemy soldier who was running away from me with the chinese "jeep" and he slid off to the side and kept running. Again, to clarify, I hit him squarely at full speed and he lived. At least before you knew that if you hit something or if something hit you, someone was going to die. now it's a crap shoot.
OK, now for the good stuff. I'm enjoying the fact that I get one point for destroying enemy commander assets. It makes an otherwise thankless job more rewarding. Getting a few new unlocks was nice as well so it will keep me interested in the game for quite a while longer. I love that there are names for the control points as it makes giving orders verbally much easier. I like the new sounds for the turrets on the APCs. Currently, this game is closer than it was before the patch to being great. However, while most of the fixes were a step forward, some were a step sideways and one was even a step backward. That being said, the game is still the most fun FPS with vehicles on the market. They're just a few more tweaks and a working server browser away from having the best FPS of all time on their hands...
