What's with all the people complaining about going up a rank on the first kill. Do you all seriously think you go up one rank per kill? No, it doesn't happen like that. When you get a kill, the game runs a check on your score. If you have sufficient score to rank up, you do. snce the requierments are now lower, you will rank up on the first kill in most cases. If you had 9000 points and the new requierment for the next rank is 5000(not for real, I made those numbers up) then you will get a kill, it runs the check, you go up a rank. I hope all those who were complaining about that "problem" didn't really believe one kill = up rank. You have to be some kind of fool to believe that.

I don't see why Dice/EA doesn't reset all the ranks and start everyone back to 0..since they're completely revamping the scoring system. Knowing 75% of people in the top 1000 padded their stats anyways. How is this going to effect the selection of commanders on ranked servers now?? With everybody shooting up to higher ranks.

OK, dazza...

Think of it this way: Let's say you had played this game PREVIOUS to the 1.03 patch, so playing on version 1.02. Now, you've played for over a month, and have gotten 1500 points. Well, at 1500 points, you receive a unlock and new rank, right?

With this new patch, it's simple: They made it easier for most people to get higher rankings, without having to play so much. I'm not sure exactly, but think of it this way: 1500 points now does not only include a first rank, it could possibly include another rank.

So, technically, since patch 1.03, the system will recognize you as being a better rank, therefore having two unlocks. Don't quote me on the actual numbers, it's an example.

So, if I was at 20000 points with patch 1.02, then I have 2 unlockable weapons.

With 1.03 patch, 20000 points is now equal to 3 unlockable weapons. But for this to happen, for the system to give you the extra unlocks, you need to do one of several things, like: kill someone, capture a flag, heal someone, etc. It doesn't mean that the ONE time you kill someone, you move up in rank. It just means the system is now aware that you have the new unlocks, and therefore gives you a higher rank.

I hope this explains it.

I don't see the point in that since everybody is subjected to the new point system.

I like the patch. I do think some other things have been changed. I think the bulletdrop has increased at least for the tanks and apcs. The stamina of a few kits has changed aswell afaik, anti-tank now runs even slower, assault runs a lil slower but medic runs far and long :).

The supply icon is great, the not running teamm8's over unless you're at speed is good.

Great stuff.

And yeah, now a lot of people are gonna get a lot of unlocks, but they did put in new ranks for the die hard score queens anyways so who's complaining. Like said before, when you have little time to play it's great to have the unlocks and ranks in this way.

I NEVER install in default directories, especially not with my gaming rig. All my games are installed into c:\games\ because I find it easier to sort through....

Oye, I guess I will test this out. I never had an issue updating with patch 1.01 and/or 1.02 with it installed in c:\games\Battlefield2...why even give the option?

Your easy way of finding things are probably causing you more technical troubles and your best bet would use a shortcut. But if you have to have access to your default game folder everyday, for god knows what reason. Than try and regular install and patch it; than drag the folder over to the "c:\games" folder and if it doesn't work. Well you might have to sacrifice your soul, but seriously I used to put all my games in a game folder but found it would create problems sometimes. My opinion is just install it default and than make a folder on your desktop labeled "games" and than find all the default game directories and make a shortcut to them and put that shortcut in the "games" folder so they are organized.

what I like about the new patch:
- tv guided missle (flys slower, has better sound and is better controllable) = it rocks!!
- new sounds for Tanks and Jeep, man the Jeep sounds are great... brrRRRRRrrrrmmmm, love it
- performance, they didnt wrote anything about performance improvements, but its running damn smooth now! exactly how its supposed to be!

things I dont like:
- the new ranking system, basicly everyone will be general tomorrow... retarded!
- new bugs!
- in commander mode on gulf map (could be any map, but only happend on gulf map here), the damaged artillerie/uav/sat are not shown on the map/commander screen
- in commander mode you cant see the difference if a supply is dropped or if someone requests a supply
- still an old bug not fixed: stand on the hotel as anti tank and be commander, go into commander mode, zoom in, exit commander mode, do that 2/3 times.. games crashes
- still not fixed the damn shadows! hell, 3 patches and the eye candy is not fixed!!!!
- still no EAX 4 HD!!!!!! its ****ing promised on their page and game cover!!!
- the new community message thing! its supposed to be INGAME! and not a simple link to a website... man retarded


I waited 3 Month, I´m pretty disappointed.. I still miss a buddy system, its so damn hard to play with friends

I think he's a spammer... reminds me of a guy I saw last night on a server....handing out ammo where you spawn.
Later, while waiting for an apc...I saw him spawn as a spec-ops... dude plastered C4 all over the wall and launched himself 200 feet... ****ing funny ****, but useful.... I think not.

It doesn't take a genius to work it out. They've lowered the points you need to get each rank. They've lowered the bars.

Therefore, sticking with your current score you might deserve a rank several ranks more senior with the new scale.

Instead of giving you the new rank in one go, each time you score it runs a check. It sees that you are worthy of at least one promotion so promotes you. Next time you score it does the same check. This happens over and over until the score required to achieve the next rank is above your current score, so you stick with that rank.

Now you are back on the normal treadmill of earning points to bring you up to the next promotion. Get it?

TV guided missile thing - ah, man thats great, I agree, it was really unwieldy before.

new ranking system - TOTALLY agree. COMPLETELY pointless. Its like a currency that has been devalued - everyone thinks they are getting richer until they start to trade with someone and realise there's been a lot of inflation!! - its soooo pointless. But then maybe they plan to introduce a load of officer ranks (or maybe they have?)

The shadows issue - are you SURE thats not an issue with your video drivers? Has been an issue with older drivers on at least nVidia cards - go to www.nvnews.net forums or www.rage3d.com forums

I don't have the game in the default directory and have a medium system, but:

no problems patching (although it did ask for 1600Mb free on my windows install disk)
no ctd
no crashes whatsoever
no lag
quite a lot of server reboots on EA UK servers tho

Well, the technical aspect is not what bothers me. I've been working with computers for over 15yrs now, so I'm pretty knowledgable, and it is after many years of installing several programs by their default path, that I felt like re-organizing everything.

I presently have 5 systems running (one gaming rig, one basic windows system, one linux router/firewall/etc, one laptop, and one poweredge 2300 server running win2k server) and in all my years of installing and uninstalling games, as long as the game is registered properly in your registry (done through the actual installation), then the game's path should be found throughout the patch process.

Like I said, I'll run the patch, and see what comes of it. I'm too busy right now trying to figure out this damn DRAM config/timing for a client's PC...argh, almost done!! :)
