Dedicated Servers Announced for Modern Warfare 2

After months of waiting and countless petitions, both Activision and Infinity Ward have lifted the lid on dedicated servers that are on the way to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. While it can't be said that the IW.net service was a massive failure, the complaints of rubber banding, host migration, game lobby issues, and countless other issues finally pushed Activision to give in to the players' requests.

"We have not been ignoring your complaints," Community Manager Robert Bowling made in a press release. "We have actually had dedicated servers ready to be released since last November at the game's launch."

"The goal of IW.net was to provide a safe, reliable gaming environment that provided a smooth and cheat free environment. We would like to take this opportunity to apologize to everyone for failing to deliver on any of these goals."

A recent Tweet by 402, Robert Bowling, shed a bit more light on just when we could expect these dedicated servers to be released. However, in typical PR fashion a straightforward answer was not given, only a cryptic binary code was provided: 010000010111000001110010011010010110110000100000
011001100110111101101111011011000111001100100001.

So is Total Gaming Network back in action/business in terms of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, minus the contest? I imagine EA/DICE is laughing very hard as they watch consumers yell out in unison "I ****ING TOLD YOU IT WASN'T GOING TO ****ING WORK OUT! BUT NO! YOU HAD TO PUT FAITH IN A FLAWED SYSTEM OBVIOUS TO EVERYONE EXCEPT YOU!" This is like Ubisoft putting faith in their online DRM for all games regardless of whether the game itself is online or not... Oh wait, that DID screw up, and consumers did yell out "I ****ING TOLD YOU IT WASN'T..." right right you get the idea. Kind of wished innovation didn't create myopia where everybody except the developers see this as an obvious bad idea (though I was a critic of Steam during the beta in the past, so it's not all bad I guess). On an unrelated note, it is quite interesting seeing EA's marketing staff attempt to steal customers, by establishing a connection between DICE's game and Infinity Ward's, through their direct-attack advertising using Twitter and online video commercials; I've always assumed comparing Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and Battlefield: Bad Company 2 is like comparing apples and oranges.
