PC Gamers Upset Over Lack of Controller Support in BioShock 2

BioShock 2 was just released and already the complaints are starting to roll in from the gaming community. Interestingly enough, one of the most complained about topics is the lack of controller support for BioShock 2 on the PC.

PC gamers have gone so far as to (gasp) create an online petition that requests 2K add in proper controller support to BioShock 2. Among some of the petition's requests are the following pleas.

This is for all of us who like the ease of use with a controller over keyboard and mouse set ups.
This is for all of us who are too uncoordinated to use keyboard and mouse.
This is for all of us who now have a paperweight that cost them between $50 and $100.
This is for all of us who want to experience this game in all its glory and beauty without having to relearn how to play video games.

On the flip side of the coin, 2K has issued a brief response about the lack of controller support. 2K's Community Manager posted the following response.

I've already reported all your concerns and complaints to the dev team, but not supporting the controller was not a decision that we made lightly.

Keep in mind that the first BioShock included controller support, which is one of the main points that is brought up by those upset over the lack of proper controller support.

Um... why? I understand it was in the first one, but why would a PC gamer complain over lack of controller support? Its baffling to me

If you want to use a controller go buy yourself a Console and stop complaining... Either learn to use mouse and keyboard, or play on a console, its very simple concept in life.

That's not a very fair comparison... If PC peripherals were roughly the same price as consoles then I would understand, but this isn't the case. I imagine those who were playing the PC version have systems fast enough to run next-generation games, while lacking next-generation consoles to supplement their entertainment. In that case, it would make sense to purchase a PC peripheral which would've been cheaper than a console (and does not require an additional subscription for online multiplayer).

Normally, I'd say the same thing without hesitation. Mouse & Keyboard are only way to play. I can't play FPS games on consoles... drives me insane. However, I just found out about the Falcon controller through a contest and from that video alone... I want one. Even, if only for single player games... like Bioshock. Anyone have it? It looks awesome but who knows what it's actually like when you sit down and try play a full game. I would imagine there would be times you'd be scrambling to grab the mouse again.

There is no excuse to not support alternative input devices, PC games should support everything, that's the point in having a PC, the dumb ass developers shouldn't be able to decide how you play.
