    Heavy Rain Demo Gameplay Footage

The folks at WouldYouKindly have a three part video showing off the gameplay in the demo for Heavy Rain. For those of you unable to get the demo yet, perhaps this will hold you over until you've had a chance to play it yourself.

this game needs more space marines, lasers, explosions, and alien boobies.

I had such high hopes for this game, but after watching these gameplays, no so much anymore. The game's got really cheezy lines, no facial expressions, craptacular audio quality, audio tones, it's just weird.

To me, I did see the facial expressions (unless I was being biased with the prior knowledge of facial motion capture being done with Vicon MX40 cameras), which in my opinion are intentionally subtle to be realistic, although television and movie actors intentionally exaggerate their emotions so people can actually see them for God's sakes. I was disappointed in Norman Jayden's voice since it makes his character sound so weak (he had better lines when he did the improvised interrogation in a different scene). I was almost sure the actor was beginning to choke as he read his lines (no doubt the studio didn't have any video footage of the pre-recorded scene since it probably wasn't ready at the time). I also laughed when he was struggling up the hill, since I've never heard of so many moans and groans of anybody in real life as he slipped his way up (maybe one or two, but once every millisecond? Hah!). The ARI System is absolutely cool (great sound effects), but no doubt relies on intuitive level design, since being lost and flicking your hand (bashing the button) over and over again will get old VERY GOD DAMN FAST. I suppose a patch to increase the range to a one-mile (or kilometer) radius could help. Scott Shelby's voice acting is perfect as far as I know. Voice acting in English in general is superior over the Japanese in my opinion, with the exception of children (not featured in the demo). Don't know how the Americans/Canadians (depending on the studio used) managed to screw up children's voices. I will express my disappointment over the animations in gameplay. It almost looks identical to Fahrenheit much to my dismay. I mean they spent well over 6 months in motion capture alone, and yet it seems to be reserved for QTE and general actions, rather than... Everything, including general movement. I felt my immersion was constantly being interrupted by the jerky and unnatural motions I'm seeing. I hope the immersion won't be ruined with the flaws I'm seeing once I give the game a proper chance. I still believe in David Cage/Quantic Dream and his ~5 years of work after Fahrenheit.
