Here is How Modern Warfare 2 Will Spark Further Controversy

Well now, as if the events of the previous week weren't enough to lower many people's opinions of Infinity Ward the following will certainly do the trick. The following contains spoilers from the single player campaign and may not be appropriate to watch. If you want to spoil a few things for yourself or see what the controversy is about, continue on.

[spoil=The following video is from 56.com, an Asian video hosting site. The video contains spoiler footage from Modern Warfare 2.]A new leaked video of the game's single player has the player playing as a terrorist and gunning down unarmed civilians inside a Russian airport.

    <embed src="http://www.56.com/n_v163_/c46_/1_/18_/f1stdacuffs_/12566040244_/234810_/0_/47289159.swf" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="480" height="395"></embed>
[/spoil]Should we start taking bets on the number of days it will take for the mass media to jump all over this after Modern Warfare 2 is released? Seriously, what were they thinking?

This news was originally brought to our attention by RangerXML at TGN. The video originated from 56.com.

i mean meh... personally I'm only mildly offended, but i honestly can't believe a big company ok'ed this. I'm thinking IW is banking on gaining an even larger audience due to the controversy /shit storm they are about to create. why bring this on yourself if you are IW?
Doesnt really matter no one bought MW or will buy MW2 for the single player

      IW needs sensitivity training

        who cares

You can do this in gta the only difference is you are not labeled a terrorist. But blowing up cars with an RPG seems pretty terrorist to me.

meh... Its a game and you just seeing it from a different set of eyes. But again IW already has the shit storm and already bend over every PC gamer and did them in the butt with not giving us anything to want to make us buy the game... I hope IW get ruined imo...

Again if they gave mod tools it would only be an amount of time someone could make something like this. I think its kinda dumb that they would put this in the game, but again I had a feeling they were putting something like this in there with all there "new" items they were putting in the game.

EDIT: I wounder what achievement IW decieded to put in for that play mode...
Mass Murder: Kill 50 people in 30seconds...

Again, meh... Media needs to get over it and yeah it sucks, but its a game.

How different is this from shooting the bad guys who are not facing you in the game?

The "bad guys" are at least armed and intend to shoot back at you should they see you.

Sorry dude, but not a valid arguement. The media needs to stop making a big deal out of this and needs to go back to reporting about the balloon boy.

If I'm not mistaken the media isn't making a big deal about this at all... I'm sure they will when it comes out but as for now they don't seem to give a shit. Also, even though I'm usually the first person to say Zips films animal porn in his basement his point is valid.

I couldn't get the video to play, but I really don't see what the big deal is. I guess if you're going into the game feeling that it's allowing you some sort of opportunity to defend the moral right with assault weapons, then you could feel tricked if it requires you to play this level/campaign/whatever to proceed.

[I agree with the comment about GTA already making this an option, though GTA probably pulls a slightly different audience, though with substantial overlap, than MW.]

Honestly, though, this is called Modern Warfare--terrorism and slaughtering innocent civilians is definitely a major component of how warfare is conducted by every country, whether deliberate with assault rifles or carelessly via aircraft loaded with bombs. That's what war is. So in that sense maybe it's good dose of reality to see firsthand the effects of what you're pretending to be a part of.

Or maybe it's just a game. Take your pick.
