GeForce 6800GT isn't enough??

Just bought the GeForce 6800GT and when I play on high the goddammed thing plays normal, but after a few hours my computer is going mad and crashes??

How much RAM you got, if you have 1GB that could maybe be the problem, on the other hand if you have 2GB RAM theres really no reason why you can't play on all high, but again there could be a malfunction with your PC, try defragging cleaning out as well.

I heard about some thing called memory leak, and it seams to be the prob with that sorta thing, but I dont know what it is sorry...

also it might be heat, the 6800gt heats up like a mother.

ARGH! The memory leak was only an issue in the 1.03 patch, and DID NOT affect clients. It was server side only...

oh, sorry didnt know, its just because I was helping someone on these forums the other day with a similar problem to this one, and like 4 people responded and said I was wrong and that it was a memory leak problem. -__-.

Yes, that was the server memory leak of old. I think he is referring to my personal suspicions of some systems not being able to properly unload paged files client side. And as I have stated, it's just my personal suspicion and nothing more.

They were wrong. Ever since the 1.03 patch that has been waht ingnorant people blame problems on... You could say it's a pet peeve of mine.

Peeved or not - I would like to hear your theory on why so many have the same symptoms that so closely resemble a memory leak. What do you think it is?

Back on topic to the original poster. High Textures are reserved for those with 2GB of RAM to maintain smooth frame rates.

Bad coding by Dice would be my guess. If it was a memory leak it would effect everyone, not just certain people. A memory leak wouldn't (most often) cause a crash, it would cause horrible performance due to constant paging.

Yes. I could agree with that. And if I were to go digging for it the first place I would look would be at the way the Shaders were modified from the 1.4 version to a hybrid PS 2 version in this patch. That would explain why 92XX users were wiped out.

My friend has a 6800 Gt runs high has no problems....he also has a dual core proccesor and a crazy amount of ram...

a friend of mine has 1gb of ram, a p4 2.6 ghz and a gforce 6800 gs in AGP
and al his settings on high, no AA.

I'm going to have to vote for a heat issue too. How's your case ventilation? Maybe try playing with the cover off and see if it goes.

well, my friend with 6800gt hasnt played battlefield since the last patch ( 1.1 i think? )

it used to run like total crap, now it wont run at all

in my experience, nothing but problems with this card and BF2

of course, HL2 and other games run awesome
