It's really dis-heartening to think that they would do that on their own forums.
I guess it's them trying to stamp out an inferno by throwing gasoline on it though.

Uh... I just got an internal server error (500) when doing a random check on the current signatures in the petition... Is that error supposed to be the pissed off community unintentionally crushing the server, or am I looking at scheduled maintenance? Because I've never seen the petition website with this error before... Ever.

Probably just a small glitch. I just checked and it's up to 45,000+ signatures.

IW has delivered a sick CoD franchise and I still trust them to make it a good game, even though they dropped the CoD title. If they manage to screw up the multiplayer part, singleplayer will be awesome, if they manage to make it work, then awesome.

Ah, my bad. Well that's a relief. Anyways, based on my analysis of bashing the ****ing refresh button, I think I've managed to produce a guess of an average of 18 signatures for every five seconds, which comes out to three signatures and one already in the middle of doing so per second (50% in). I believe this has a source of error of about +-3 signatures per five seconds or a person mostly finishing up his/her signature per second (60% in). They're now at this very second at ~68,300+, not that it means anything by the time anybody gets a chance to glance at this. I mean, the refresh button keeps changing the damn number, no matter when I hit it.

Re: The Modern Warfare 2 Boycotts and Petitions Are in Full Swing

Lets see... Roughly 2.5 days has passed, subtract the current total I'm seeing which is 101,601 (already outdated even during calculation) with 1,882 to account for the fact that I have no clue when this petition started exactly, and I get 99719. Divide that by 2.5 days (I'm a little over ten minutes off comparing to the news post to my latest check of the petition, but whatever), and I'm getting... 39,888 (rounded up). Release date is at November 10, 2009 assuming there is no delay for the PC release (console's aren't related and thus ignored) based on the unexpected reassurances (that conflicts with current trends, but I digress), but point is, that leaves us with 21.5 - 1 = 20.5 days assuming the eve of release day is the cut-off date. 39,888 multiplied by 20.5 gets us... 817,696 signatures up until the very last day before release day.

So assuming the rate of signatures doesn't change (which obviously is impossible) and there is a large enough PC community, it looks like hitting the quota of ~500K is possible before release day. And if anything, the petition will likely exceed it. I'm quite certain Activision will not be very pleased with such results, even if Infinity Ward wishes to pursue this. Well that was fun break from life for me. Back to attending to it.

Update: Looks like the rate of signatures dropped significantly. I think the highest the petition will get before release day will be around 200,000+ signatures now.

Re: The Modern Warfare 2 Boycotts and Petitions Are in Full Swing

I have been a long standing fan of the Call of Duty series, and although i was dubious to buying Modern Warfare 2 due to the multiplayer aspect I think its fantastic. Change is somthing that nobody likes and I can asure you that even though the dedicated server ability has been removed, it has not laid to waste the enjoyment of kicking ass online. If you haven't already played the game, then maybe its about time that you did. Some of the maps on MW2 maybe limited to 8 or 12/18 player, but any more than that and it would be rediculous. The maps have been disigned in proportion to the amount of players who can join the game and are suited very well. I can admit that some of the maps could do with being smaller or increasing the max player, but by no means does this affect the game play.

I can see why you all think that dedicated server should be availiable and having the ability to search through a list of servers should also be acceptable as I personally dont mind. This perticular method I dont think has been fully tested as there are a few bugs, but with any luck up and coming patches should fix the issue. The LAG issue has also not been completley addressed as its still an issue and will allways be an issue due to network and internet speeds of other player, but as with most games, you deal with. Removing the ability to use Additional MODS and Tools is also pretty good as some of them are not needed and are truley awful.

If any of these are introduced over the next year or so then i'm sure that it would make MW2 more interesting as the aspect and idea of game match making works better than you think. (give or take some minor issues) Change is somthing that we all have to embrase, so why dont you start with accepting the change that has taken place and enjoy playing Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2.
