L4D2 Boycott Group to Disband as They "Accomplished Their Goal"

Come October 21st, all 41,000 members of the Left 4 Dead 2 Boycott Group will be kicked out and the group will be officially disbanded. It seems as though the group has "accomplished everything (they) can" with regards to the boycott, and has played the group off as a success in their goals.
We have accomplished everything we can on our manifesto. We’ve been dealing with Valve ever since our group started, then we met them in-person and now we’re at the point of concluding our discussions. Our goal wasn’t to steer people away from L4D2, it was to get Valve’s attention and have them support original L4D. We succeeded and that’s where our mission ends; nothing more or less.

The recently released Crash Course was just the start. Future updates will continue to roll in, and 4v4 matchmaking is first in line. Valve has confirmed to us that it’ll be available before the release of L4D2. Also don’t forget, we have another DLC pack confirmed for sometime in the near future and of course, there will be bug fixes. This is as good as it can get people.

As for Left 4 Dead 2 we are all aware it expands on L4D’s gameplay and takes it to the next level. Its successful sales only confirm that we’ll get to slaughter more zombies in future, not that we have failed. We understand some of you have a problem with its price tag. Personally, I’m quite surprised with the discount on pre-orders; A 4 Pack bundle brings it down to only $33.75 for each person. I see many people took advantage of this including "boycotters", but to be honest that’s a fair price. In other words, that’s what expansions cost. You can’t blame them for making this decision. Not everyone shared the same thoughts here.

Effective Wednesday October 21st 2009 at 12:00 PM Eastern Standard Time, this group will be closed.

People have lost sight of why we're here. The comments are always full of trolls, people bashing Valve and phishers. What is more, people are unwilling or unable to wait for Valve to follow through in any cohesive way. Valve is at least trying to make things right, there will be speed bumps on the way, however we will get there. Even if it is not as quickly as we would like. The boycott has served its purpose and it is now up to you all as individuals to decide what is right for you.

As a collective we have done more than achieve a few goals, we have paved the way for Developer-Community relations in the future. No matter what the press or other gamers say, we have made an indelible mark upon the future of this industry. You should all be proud, we certainly are.
Keep in mind that their only goal was to have Valve "honor its commitment to release ongoing periodic content for Left 4 Dead." The rest was just complaints about how Left 4 Dead 2 will kill Left 4 Dead in some way, shape, or form.

"We'have paved the way", like seriously? Good laugh Pity -that- has come to an end.

To me, they haven't achieved anything that Valve wasn't planning on doing in the first place, just a lot of moaning to hear reconfirmation of earlier stated plans. The only thing is new that Valve gave in just a little bit to the moaning with all the bad press out there it was a good thing to turn it around (not to neglect the fact bad press is press nonetheless), and we had an awesome "Fly Gabe Newell" story.

But I must say I'm surprised/happy they're willing to leave the stage (aka their 15 minutes of fame ends here), I would have imagined they would find something new to bitch about* - they could have gone on for ages about the fact that the DLC is still 'to be released' (as with anything, Valve takes their time).

    * Although this post is only the voice of one/two leaders of the group, I seriously hope the other 40998 don't decide to regroup and continue.. that would be just a recap of what we already have had (which would also make it greatly ironic considering some of the complaints in regards to L4D2 would be just about that)

Here is Walking_Target addressing his adoring fans in the comments on the L4D2 Boycott Group page:

y'know what? Fuck all of you calling us sellouts.

How many of you would have refused a trip to see valve?

More still, none of your pricks have shown any appreciation for the work that we've put in. We've been running this shit for 4 months and recieved exactly Jack and Shit.

      Go die in a fire.
I'm surprised they lasted as long as they did with people like this manning the helm.

I kinda wish they'd last longer now with that comment Walking_Target made. I'd actually like to seem them all line up like lemmings and in fact "die in a fire".

Re: L4D2 Boycott Group to Disband as They "Accomplished Their Goal"

Work with VALVe? Dealing with VALVe? Following their manifesto? I'm sorry... What? First off, they flamed Crash Course, and took credit for Crash Course... Second, they claimed they would stick with the community all the way to the end after coming back from VALVe (I don't consider this point to be the end in terms of their "manifesto," although the real end was pretty much when all of CS-Nation stopped caring, and I couldn't be happier), third, what the bloody hell is he talking about in terms of the "work that [they've] put in"? E-mail? MSN? Steam Friends?

Ooooooooohhh... Aren't you ****ing special... Well, then again, they did get a trip out of it. I suppose they did count as dealing. I just fail to see how the founders felt any accomplishment out of this aside from scoring a trip. The community has every right to be angry at the founders, though they're angry at the sequel for all the wrong reasons. My personal viewpoint on L4D2 is that VALVe has somehow managed to complete a sequel in roughly a year, and still somehow put in enough features and testing to make this work. Apparently, it may not have been rushed.

However... I don't feel like playing it. I haven't settled into L4D yet, so I'd rather wait for a free weekend(s), and eventually L4D3. I'm pretty sure I'll yearn for a sequel when L4D3 gets announced, and from there I'll buy the eventual triple pack (and sell L4D as I have a copy already).

Oh yeah one more thing. Seems VALVe knows how to deal with flames. Fight vinegar with honey apparently. One founder? Swear like an immature child. LIKE ME!

Obviously this whole "trip to Valve's cleavage" will lead us to believe that they are infact sellouts, and Valve just went along with the gag and made it that much sweeter for them. I don't know who's dumber.. the community for actually supporting that dumb ass group or Valve for actually inviting them over on a free trip. Humans.. dumbest spiecies on the planet.

Actually I thought it was clever of VALVe to disarm someone who hates you through kindness and generosity. Its unexpected and spontaneous offer was rather effective at blindsiding them, and makes them vulnerable (as opposed to insulting them through the press, which would've made them more defensive) to "hearing their side of the story," or play it in this case. I don't think it was a stupid move at all. However, the founders themselves definitely shut the group down at the wrong time, and I find the group members anger to be quite understandable.
