QuakeCon '09 - Quake Live Receives Mac and Linux Support

During today's press conference with id Software, the company let it be known that both Mac and Linux users will soon get to enjoy Quake Live. Support for the two operating system types was announced earlier to much fanfare from the audience.

Event goers can try out the two versions live on the show floor at QuakeCon 2009. Those not at the event will just have to wait a few days for the update to roll out on August 18. With a huge following of the game from Windows users already present, the love for Quake Live is soon to be shared by all.

We'll have more details as they are made available.

I'm pumped. I really enjoy playing some quake live now and then, but sometimes I'm running linux! I remember posting in their forums about beta testing it on linux, but I received no response. I thought quake had a somewhat large linux fanbase anyways. I figured linux support would have been one of the first things they'd have done. ...didn't they sell a linux version of quake? If I'm remembering correctly, that is the only game I've ever seen in the store made for linux!

Yup the linux support was there back in the day. And now with the newer Linux we have, a lot of the Windows games can be played on Linux. Yeah it takes a good bit of knowledge and some porting and what not, but it is happening. Would be nice to see more games ported with Linux support :).
