Remedy Not to Blame for Alan Wake's PC Disappearance

The PC version of Alan Wake is still up in the air. As of right now, a PC version has been put on the back burner over at Remedy while the Xbox 360 version is proceeding full steam ahead.

While many were quick to point the long, boney finger of blame in Remedy's direction, another company may be to blame. Yes, the game's publisher, Microsoft, is who we should all place the blame on for the possible lack of a PC version. At least this is what Remedy states is the case.
“Thank you for your continued interest in Alan Wake. It is accurate that we are currently working exclusively on the Xbox360 version of Alan Wake. PC plans are currently open, and therefore it’s safe to say that at least a simultaneous launch with the Xbox version will not happen at this late stage. Remedy has a deep heritage in PC gaming and would love to see a PC version available to its PC followers, ultimately however this decision lies with our publisher.”

This statement was issued both to BrightFalls and to Digital Spy.

PC owners can't do much of anything right now but keep the hope alive that a PC version will actually be released some day. Well, quiet sobbing about the current lack of a PC version is also permissible.

Well of course that's what they're going to state....They don't want the entire PC fan-base pissed at them.

I told everyone that this was microsoft's decision, but some didn't think it was.

I was looking forward to this game.

        LOST ANOTHER ONE TO DITECH!

Re: Remedy Not to Blame for Alan Wake's PC Disappearance

The way I see it, all things are going according to (the contingency) plan; originally designed for Windows Vista for the PC version, the game was supposed to feature Direct X 10's capabilities. From there Vista imploded from the compatibility, performance, and customer loyalty (towards XP). Remedy then went into a media blackout, and the game faded into obscurity where the public considers the game to be vaporware. While I understand their silence isn't entirely due to Vista being a poor exclusive platform to market the game for the PC version (seeing how Sami Järvi did some rewrites such as the new introduction we saw in the trailer), it does seem to imply the PC version was supposed to show off Microsoft's technology, and since that failed... The game is now currently just for the Xbox 360, with other platforms being under consideration after the game's release. So what's my point?

In short, we're guaranteed a PC version for Alan Wake with some nice incentives such as the graphics being improved, and the software developer's kit being available exclusively for PC (hopefully this time they'll make it user-friendly). So what's the catch? It's going to require Direct X 10 if Microsoft is being nice (otherwise it'll be 11). Meaning? Wait until Windows 7 hits retail before we can even begin to consider hearing an announcement for Alan Wake on PC. There's a chance Remedy will provide a beta for the game while everybody continues trying out the various builds of Windows 7 out there though.

I just hope the game won't be a rip-off of Alone in the Dark 4. The concept of a survival-horror game involving the usage of light as your weapon isn't very original. Still, I was looking forward to taking refuge in BrightFalls while Matt Haz... I mean, Max Payne goes in a foreign country shooting his various mixed akimbo weaponry and acting like he's still the same person.

I forgot that microsoft was involved with alan wake. I should have realised this ealier, i bet for the past few years theyve been making it for 360 and only worked up the nerve to tell pc gamers this august. Microsoft should have a restraining order against pc because we are sick of this crap over and over again they should do things for there precious 360.
