Nice troll m4. All Zips is saying is discussing the images under the assumption they are final, is premature. There's nothing wrong with slamming them if you don't like them, but equally its not unlikely the final versions could be much more integrated into the environment, like the existing gamehelper banners are:

@peagle: I would have absolutely NO problem with in-game ads if they were as such. It's a war-torn, dusty, appropriate banner for dust.

But if they're going to be like the dust2 CT spawn, then holy crap.

Shut up you little cunt, all he EVER does is say how wonderful and all knowing valve is, he was a moderator on steampowered.com, he is BIASED.

Who gives a fuck if it is final or not? When you put up something on the discussion board and have an open forum to it, then say "BETA BETA BLAHBLAH" only to the people who DON'T like the way it looks is retardedly illogical, if it is BETA then ALL opinions mean jack shit and this crap should not of been posted at all.

Why would you have this retarded shit up here if it was not open for discussion on the CURRENT pictures?
Valve never released ANY pictures. I'm pretty sure they simply stated that ads were going to be available in the BETA steam.

As far as posting it, no one said anything about you not being able to state your opinion or discuss them. He just said it was BETA, and a BETA can change.

M4: You are about as misinformed as they come.

FYI: If I was such a Valve suckup, don't you think I'd still be a mod there? Mhm, exactly. Stop trolling or you'll be met with your second ban. Thanks.

Zips, you're right: this is still Beta. Perhaps that's not what the released version will be. I'm not naive enough to believe it won't be close, but just for the sake of argument, I'll play along. What are Beta tests for, other than to seek opinion, gauge reaction, gather market response?
To test for functionality and for bugs. Not all BETA tests seek to gauge reaction, especially if the testing is done on small scale. If it was done for feedback purposes, there would be a designated place to offer suggestions. As there is not, that is not the purpose of this particular test.
Sorry, but it doesn't look like many people around here like them. The most positive remark I've heard yet is "at some point you'll ignore them reflexively and they'll be background clutter to you." Somehow I don't think Valve really wants a target audience for this gimmick that runs the gamut between "I hate them, and you by association" to "I just won't pay attention to them". Nothing like alienating gaming customers to the point that they're more likely to boycott the products being displayed than to actually buy them.
Ever notice how many times CS players threaten to do this or that? It never comes to fruition, I really don't expect it to start now with some ads, especially when plugins add their own ads as well and nobody has boycott those.
If they proceed with advertisements at this point, I have nothing left to conclude but that their Beta test wasn't for the purpose of seeking community input, but an advertising medium demonstration for marketing departments.
The only advertised purpose for the beta is bug finding and fixing.

So I'm not going to assume there are ulterior motives. I agree that there very well could be, but unless you're Valve, there's no room to state one way or the other.

Personally my only concern, if this is a beta, is the size of some of the placements, particularly the one at CT spawn on d2. Whatever that turns out to be, it's huge.

m4 are you capable of making a comment without swearing and insulting, or do you believe that makes your argument stronger, or is funny in some ironic way? I'd appreciate it if you were at least a bit more creative, maybe something about my mother, and how much fun you had last night.

For once in my life i'm gonna agree with Zips on this one, as much as I hate the look and even the whole idea of these in-game adverts, they may actually change to become more integrated with the map.

If they aren't, well, too bad. I don't think people will flock away from the game unless it becomes gamebreakingly bad.

So exactly what the fuck was the point of having this up for discussion if all he says it's a beta so don't speak down on it, is everyone just fucking special now or what?

Im pretty sure M4 is the nerd here, who honestly gets that pissed off over a news poster on a computer game's fansite. Someone of which he doesn't even know in real life... lawl amirite. Sounds like he is about to go a mass murder rampage or something.

tbh the server owners should get some recompense for the advertisements. I mean the server they pay for, and personally maintain and run, is forced to make money for someone else (see slavery, it's a similar concept).

It's like saying, "All users of windows will now have advertisements replace their desktop and explorer backgrounds. This is mandatory, and we will forcefully instigate this change."
