  • Cvar for Weapon Pricing; The CPL Comments

According to a very recent email via the Linux HLDS mailing list, Alfred Reynolds states that there will be a cvar to enable or disable the new pricing system. Keep in mind, this cvar may have already been thought of and implemented before the public outcry over the new system was heard.
There will be a cvar controlling this new functionality, mp_dynamicpricing, you can disable it if you wish by setting its value to 0.

    - Alfred
This should come as a big relief to the competitive community.

Furthermore, Angel Munoz of the CPL kindly granted CS-Nation his own thoughts on the matter. Here are his comments shared with CS-Nation earlier this evening.
This year the CPL has been focused on standardizing esports at a global scale, especially since so many new organizations have their own customized tournament rules and methodologies. At first impression this latest development from Valve does seem contrary to the standardization of professional and serious gaming, and more like a public demonstration of Steam's technical capabilities. And although this is certainly a very impressive demonstration of Steam's statistical intelligence, we are concerned that these changes may inadvertently create insurmountable difficulties for us to seriously consider adopting Counter-Strike: Source as an official tournament game. We are already in communication with our friends at Valve about this matter, and sincerely hope to better understand this new development and share our concerns with them.
It looks as though this cvar is just what the doctor ordered. A special thanks to the CPL and Angel Munoz for sharing their thoughts on this update with us.

This was no competition, do not put any "score" next to any "side." It's a game and Valve is giving all sides of the community what they want.

I think its safe to say they had to put this cvar in otherwise competitive source would die that we can all agree on.

alot of people think the competitive community is so small but alot of u forget there is such thing as competitive pub players who also didnt want to see this change.

Yes but the radar was something people could learn to love over time, this change was coming every week and was going to be the downfall for any serious players in source.. now finally source will get back on to the path of taking over 1.6.

For once they do something to appease the competitive community - Thanks to Angel for opening his mouth - Or else this change NEVER would of been implemented

Well gee golly, Borus, for a second there it looked like SOURCE competition players might have to use their brains to play a match of the countering style of strike to gain the upper hand on another team rather than making sure sv_rateframecosigntangent and cl_forprosonly were properly set.

                  Close call.

Deletable_Man is a waste of space.

Try to understand that a change that CHANGES weekly would COMPLETELY fuck the game up and has NOTHING to do with whatever the fuck you cry about.

CS: Source has been and is still continuing to grow. If you're going to try making a point, at least try a factual approach and not one of fantasy.

I dont think any league even public open ones will use this dynamic money thing now that theres a option.

but if it works well for pub and dosnt change prices of the main guns to much I think then leagues might take it on but till then everyone besides pub will leave it off.

I think thats pretty dumb of you to say, i mean the competitive players can let alone play the game better than any pubber, and quite frankly pubbing is no skill at all, id like to see you play a match or two against a top cal-main/invite team, and tell me that pubbing got you "good" i think its great valve is actually listening to the competitive community, we play the game the way it should be, and as for the radar, that was one of the worst ideas ever, there trying to make it easier for pubbers, the old radar was much better, but im sure pubbers couldnt use it.

This game is on its last leg, they have to result to a community based lan run by a player..

You should know aswell as anyone that without leagues or lans, the game would go flat on its face and end up in the bargain bin at walmart.

The casual players move onto the next game that aims for you or makes you run faster.. such as doom or quake4, Then those die and go to a new one..why? Because they don't have any competetion, no leagues or lans so they die.

As much as people deny it, they play for rank or to look good.

That is why cs 1.6 is the most popular game. Plenty of leagues and lans and good coverage.

All you ever do is bash anything to do with competitive cs and are quick to defend the players who bin the game after a few months.
