I have a high-end PC, and I play Quake4, CoD2, BF2 and CS:S mostly, and I've played a bit of FEAR.. And the Source engine is still upthere with the best looking imho.. In the physics department Source still is the best even..Comment

No it's a bug everyone gets it.
so get a job and a new video card.
[edit] http://techgage.com/review.php?id=3889There is extreme glare on the water in the 32-Bit version, while the 64-Bit version is ideally clean and easy on the eyes. Matt was nice enough to test this on his system also, and the 32-Bit version with latest drivers appears the same as in the picture above. I don't recall ever seeing it like this before

Of course its physics implementation is one of the best, its havoc.

The graphical side of things, im not saying they look bad, just that some things look better now, and have overtaken it.
I have a 360 now with a HDTV, and the vast majority of games on it surpass source. PGR3, NFSMW, King Kong, all look better than source. Id argue the COD2 engine does too. Battlefield 2, yes. Quake 4: too shiny for my liking thanks. Still a nice engine though.Comment

So here are my quick thoughts on some of the other engines around...- Quake 4 runs under id's Doom 3 engine, which has far better lighting, but poorer overall versitality and image beauty than Source.
- FEAR has some fantastic effects if you're able to run them, but on a midrange system, Source looks better because it's still playable with stuff turned on. The outdoor rendering also seems better with Source.
- COD2 and Battlefield 2 aren't bad outside, but I haven't been impressed with the indoor rendering in them. I'd have to see NFSMW's engine do something other than that game, as it's pretty specific most of the time. That said, all of those games do what they do well.
The one thing I will say for Source, however, is the upgrading factor... we've now got HDR in games that never had it initially, and when the effects previewed in the recent DOD videos make their way down to us, Source will have an even more impressive feature-set than it already does. I'm hopeful that VALVe will continue to keep on upgrading the engine to support more impressive features, while keeping options sliders available with the little guy in mind. :)Comment

Isn't it kind of a moot point to compare a game (Source) that has been out well over a year to newer PC games or games on new hardware (360)? There are games that will come out a year from now that will look even better then any of the titles mentioned here. That's the cycle of technology.Comment
