HDR takes a long time to get right. Reading somewhere, it said that Valve wanted to have HDR but keep the FPS fairly constant or with as little FPS impact as possible, and include proper AA support. Previous attempts at HDR had to make sacrifices (Far Cry for example).

And you know full well that if they rushed this out, people would complain about them not testing their releases before hand.
I think everyone would be fairly more concerned with how much fun the game is, rather than how good it looks. Of course if you have a fun game with great graphics the amount of fun doesn't necessarily diminish.

That being said, it wasn't that much fun and very brief which makes me disappointed.

This is effectively a tech demo, and as such, xlokix, this in particular is pretty much entirely based on how good it looks. This isn't, and never was supposed to be some kind of huge gameplay area. For the game itself, gameplay is more important, but for this area... that doesn't apply.

It's impressive, but nothing I haven't seen before. However, it's still collectively part of a story line and there wasn't much of a story in that first chapter.

I think what he meant was, as proven by DoD:S, they've already gotten it right, so they should have just released the level earlier instead of hyping it up. It's just like them talking about how it will take them a few months to hdr-up the old CS:S levels, when in fact all they really have to do is recompile them with the effect enabled.

Stop bitching about the gameplay, peeps. The concept behind this free content was to show off the new capabilities / technology of the Source engine.

was nice. effects looked great in church, but they clearly could have released it earlier considering how short it was. VALVE HIRE MORE PEOPLE

Spoiler tags are created (by rizzuh) as inline code. That's in the php, and I can't change it. It uses javascript and all that nonsense. I could fix it, but rizzuh would have to start it off.

not at all worth the hype, in both visual and gameplay areas.. but atleast it was free.

I would have cared or been partially impressed if they would have released this before DoD:S, so that HDR was fresh and new. after DoD:S, I can't help but have a "so what?" response to this.

                            Woot, Ran smoothly...

I have a Radeon 9600 (lol) which met recomended level and for some reason came up as a 9700 O_o

                            Pentium 4 2.8 GHZ Processor vs. 2.9

512 MB RAM vs. 1 GB RAM

Ran Smoothly (with a bit of glitchyness in the action, understandable) and the church looked awsome.

                            BTW: MMMMMM Leaches

no idea. That fact that it runs smooth is all I really care about.
