    And that isn't subjective?
Have you seen the huge holes in the maps on dust2 and aztec? And how about the new seal model and its arbitary broken neck.

Valve do an excellent job with CSS and HL2, and remain one of the many few game companies who keep giving us more and more :) However - I'd like someone from Valve to come to me and honestly say they properly beta test any of the css stuff before release, and by that I mean taking more than 15 minutes to run around a map looking for texture errors rather than brush errors.

      Your evidence?

And that isn't subjective? Get off your high horse and sit down.
The fact that Doom 3's gameplay is repetitive and boring (which i agree with btw.) has nothing to do with the fact that the engine itself was pretty much bug free, I've never updated doom and I've never had a single problem with it. Same with UT2k4 btw. Halflife2 on the other hand is happily increasing the problems I have with every new update that is released. Oh joy.

Besides, css is getting the good end of the deal. I've been trying to play HL2DM, and the number of bugs in it is incredible. Steam might be a good idea if Valve would actually put the same amount of time in quality assurance as they did before steam, but clearly they have instead opted to use the public as beta testers. And the beauty of it all...if something truly doesn't work, you don't even have the option anymore to reinstall and use an older patch.

A-ha... You personally have no problems with D3 or UT2004. Well then, I personally have no problems with CS: Source.

Everything there is reliant on your own computer rig (hardware and software included) and also personal preference.

As for UT2004, it's had a number of updates and patches already, so there are glaring holes in that game [the one that was in the now patched leviathan being one of them ].

As for D3 being bug free, that's not the case.

HL2DM is only out now because there was such a huge cry for it from the DM community. Same as there was a cry for CS: Source from the CS community. So Valve did what they could and rushed out the DM aspect of the game in order to start appeasing everyone.

You mentioned the beauty of it all, and really, it is a beautiful system if you think about it. If something is wrong, then more than likely a quickfix/rollback/or a fix the next day will be released in order to fix the issue. That way, everyone is current, there's no guessing as to which version of the game you need or should have if trying to play online, and there's no huge delay or wait while file hosting websites get the patch and you wait in line.

I agree with you on the fact that HL2DM was rushed, and as such I am very patient with Valve concerning gameplay bugs such as the messed up hitboxes. But the fact remains that since the last patch a lot of people crash without and error message to desktop, and that frequently , sometimes half the people on the server at the same time. And this was introduced with the last patch, which shows that Valve has no quality control, which brings me to the main important point.

Let me quickly name to examples. Shortly after HL2 was released Valve rolled out a patch that made it impossible for a hugh number of people to use HL2, I'm sure you guys remember. The second example is even more significant. Not too long ago, before HL2 came out, Valve released a patch that made it impossible for everyone with a Windows 95 based operating system (98, ME) to play Halflife or counterstrike. Just think about it for a second. That means they didn't even test the patch on different operating systems!!! How can that possibly be sufficient quality control. Well, you might say, they released updates shortly after to fix those bugs. Yes, that's true. But only because those two bugs very serious showstoppers. Think about the numerous small and medium bugs that slip through that way and are not fixed with fast rollouts. The latest crash problems in HL2DM illustrate that in a pretty obvious way.

Personally, I never used to have that much problems with Steam. Now i believe that I was just lucky for a while.

            edit..

btw, the fact that Valve obviously has a very relaxed view on quality assurance affects all mods, not just HL2DM.

you have been utterly, totally, owned, pawned, slaughtered zips...

valve=we can afford 3million bugs because our customer base consists of 2 year olds that don't mind patching every 2nd week.

id software=we better roll out solid games because our customer base demands it and expects it...mainly because we have a prestigious image to uphold.

basically valve set a precendent for themselves of constant patching, to allow shotty programming and support because they know the customers will have no choice but accept it.

is this regarding css cuz who cares about win95 and 98 i sure don't. ppl using these os's probably don't meet the min hardware requirements anyways never mind software.

btw all software will have bugs that require patches, updates, ect no matter how much qa is done. i work for a software company and deal with this every day.

You missed the point. Of course any software has bugs, there is no way around it. The example with win 98 just shows that Valve didn't test the update on that system, which in turn strongly indicates insufficient testing of updates released in general. Again, that's just an example and has nothing to do with what operating system to use or not, and I think I made that quite clear in my previous post.
