We were hacked. Several times over the past two weeks, in fact.
While all passwords are encrypted and salted, it's recommended that you change your password here when you can.
Even though Half Life 1/Counter Strike are very cheap to purchase online or in store (like $10), having to spend another $50 for Half-Life 2 validation would be a hassle.
VAC2 is just another challenge for coders and programmers: who will be the first to have bragging rights ? Circumvention is inevitable. I honestly doubt that Valve will keep up with every exploit and cheat released. After all, they're doing great now... but that's an unfair assumption: I hope it works.
and yeah I'd have just introduced it a bit more Stealthy and banned em all tbh :P
I don't care if a cheater willingly stops cheating or if they're banned. In fact, it's probably better if they willingly give up cheating rather than being forced to do so because it's less likely for them to cheat again.
I'm surprised by the number of people who have faith in VAC2 stopping hackers when they haven't even seen it in action yet. And those people suggesting that Valve should have kept the release quiet are missing the point. Part of the benefit of VAC2 is deterrence (as Supersonic^ pointed out). If they can announce it and spook some kids into uninstalling their downloaded skills, then that helps. There will always be people who write or customize their own hacks and will continue to get away with it. But as long as some people get scared and stop, or are dumb enough to use outdated and detected hacks and get themselves banned, the problem will improve. Hacking isn't that big of an issue now anyway. It happens, but it's not rampant. It's more prevalent in CS because it's a very popular game, so more hacks are written for it. Overall I think VAC2 might make a dent now, but it will never eliminate hacking altogether.
vac doesnt detects hack by names alone they detect them from tags in thier source so lets say somekid was to use some of the source from a joolz hack vac detects the tags and bans that hack if its new ittl log it and then ittl start targeting that
I dont get you guyz, u moan about when vac2 is coming so valve release's some info telling you that vac2 is coming and all you do now is say why didnt they keep it quiet?!?!?!?, how can they keep it quiet if you want to know when its coming?!??, anyone?
Well, what I believe many were hoping for was for it to be released without warning so the kids who are using cheats now will get surprise bans. Now that they are saying when it will be released, people will be able to turn off their cheats ahead of time to avoid being banned.
