It's technically forums and a comment system on the front page I suppose, so I apologize (I don't see how that makes me a retard, though. Perhaps you just can't read the front page?). This article contains new and old information about the lighting, shadows, graphics, etc of Half-life 2. Half-life 2 has not been released, Doom 3 has been released. The Doom 3 engine is about as advanced as Half-life 2, and some people like me would like to see the comparisons of the 2 engines. Half-life 2 vs. Doom 3 has always been a major debate and since Doom 3 was a pretty big success since it's release. Everyone is left wondering if Half-life 2 will be such a success as Doom 3 was. Half-Life 2 is the future of Counter-Strike, whether you like to admit it or not. I guess you just don't understand my point here.
1) These are forums you idiot. [ http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v321/...ll/forums.jpg ]
2) Comparing hl2 with doom3 is irrelevant to the 'future of counter-strike'.Comment

That's not true. Without HL2 and the new engine and it's new capabilities, there would be no CS:S.
Realize that Valve made Half-Life first. Someone else made Counter-Strike. Second, realize that Valve started making Half-Life2 as their next big release......Not Counter-Strike Source.
Counter-Strike just comes along quicker since they don't have to create a story and stuff for it.
HL2 is indeed relevant to the future of Counter-Strike...and therefore any article about it.Comment

You mean, as Doom 3 is.

Early sales are not always good indications of success, particularly given that both games are likely to be driven much further by third-party mods. In this market, we won't know which one is most successful until this time next year, and that could change again a year later.
Who knows, maybe a year from now we'll all have forgotten about Doom 3 and HL2 and be playing an awesome new FPS from some fresh new company that's only been around a few years (maybe headed by some ex-Microsoft employee and stuffed full of the brightest talent from the game modding scene...)Comment

Funny so many people have commented on Doom3 flashlight thing. One of the first things I did was look for a mod that changed it so I could use the flashlight and weapon at the same time - mainly because on of the first things you are taught in the service is to i.d. your targets - which you can't do if you can't see. You rarely see a covert op without some type of Tac light on their weapon, so I doubt you'd see a marine wandering about a poorly lit facility without a flashlight somehow securely attached to his weapons.
I can understand that as a programmers choice to help build tension within the game environment - beyond that it sucks.
Also - I think it's fair to review HL2 and D3 together. We can already see a difference between the 2 games and how the phys engines are used. No weapons in D3 depend on the phys engine, where as HL2 features weaps that use objects in the game as weapons. Not to mention last night on CS:S I saw someone actually cover the bomb with a pile of barrels. Took the ct forever to get to it. Outstanding.Comment

I quite like grabbing an M249 for two reasons:

1. To mow down people.
2. To block the hallway with 4 or 5 barrels so I can mow down people.Comment

That's because it wasn't a cock-sucking exercise, instead they were trying to establish the differences between the two.
The guy who wrote the article didn't even mention the dynamic trilinear surfaces of either of the games or how well both games put to use data compensators found in the newer ATI and GeForce cards.appended @ [time="1093896444"]
This latest CS:S screenshot is extremely realistic...
Much better than Doom 3.Comment

Where's proof that Windows is dying?
Here is how i look at it... ID cares about their customers and doesnt make up random release dates and they make an effort to port their games to superiour OSes such as Linux and MAC. Windows is dieing and there is no point in making any more windows exclusive games Valve.... get your act together..
Show me proof. Saying Windows is dying without proof is rather retarded.
The only Microsoft products I use on my computer are WinXP, MS Office, and MSN 6.2Noleafclover199 wrote..
