    Half-Life 2 vs Doom 3

For those who have missed out, WhutDuFuk.com churned out a very interesting article contrasting both Half-Life 2 and Doom 3 from a more technical point of view (read: casual gamers need not apply).
    Physics

Both games use advanced physics engines but in Doom 3 the environmental physics seem like an after thought with purely aesthetic value and no gameplay purpose. To be honest you really don't see all to many physics tricks in Doom 3. Half-Life 2 takes physics to the next level making them paramount to gameplay, even including a weapon that takes advantage of the Havok 2 physics engine running under the hood.
If you fancy reading paragraph after paragraph of shadowing, AI, physics, animation, and other such enthralling topics, then grab your trusty pen protector, broken glasses, and of course, your cherished picture of Gabe Newell or John Carmack and check out this insightful article.

Half-Life 2 isn't even out yet, so this doesn't seem like a very valid comparison.

Technical point of view? Ahahaha. That went out the window after I read the first paragraph.

"Doom 3 beats out Half-Life 2 with it's extensive use of real mapping and dynamic lighting."

What is "real" mapping? Is he referring to normal mapping?

"more polygons and detail textures" than doom 3? Not only is that totally unsubstantiated but it's rediculous. This guy doesn't even know what a detail texture is. And even if HL2 *does* push more polygons, the entire point of Doom3's normal mapping is that polycount becomes irrelevant. This article is NOT technical and reads likes a fanboy regurgitating buzzwords he read somewhere but didn't comprehend.

I just reread this article again. This thing isn't newsworthy and is embarrassing. I'd recommend taking it off your website as it looks amateurish.

I find these articles pointless. For one, Half-Life 2 hasn't even been released yet.

              Here come's the doom3 fans =d

Anyways even though hl2 is not even out its hard to tell but it is true that hl2 beats doom3 in the physics area so far from what I seen.

i nealry completed doom3, isnt it annoying when you format and forget to backup you save files ... sigh lol :/

and in my opinion, doom3 is an outstanding piece of software, its simply amazing, but i reckon that halflife2 will blow it away, maybe not gfx wise, but gameplay wise.

Just because we like reading about certain aspects doesn't mean were all typical nerds. Maybe I should be stereotypical too and assume your a big dumb jock.

I don't know how he could compare when the game isn't even out yet. But let's use CS: Source as a representative for the engine, he says the characters in HL2 don't glide with their feet moving back and fourth, has he played Doom 3? Has he played Source? The way the players move in 1.6 is far superior to Source, as of right now anyway. We can only hope this is fixed in HL2 and CS at a later date.

Seriously, these people run a website dedicated to an old game.

CS: Source is running the same engine as Half-Life 2 and that's more or less out, and whoever wrote the article *might* even have access to the alpha build. So this article could be very well valid but you won't know that until you do the homework.

PS. I'm not doing it for you.

This is indeed a very bad article. It is totally amateur and was posted on PHL a few days ago and got flamed. The guy writes this article solely on screenshots and word-of-mouth, no technical or hands on expierience.

Also, I never knew WutDaFuk was a good news source.
