CAL will be 'Pay to Play'

Looks like CAL will either have to make CAL-Open free, or change the name. Oh unless Angel will pay dictionary.com (with the money they will get from CAL) to add his own definition of "open."

There's just the thing with setting up areas for events, better awards, maybe even going towards the website(s) they run for the league... Maybe, just maybe for stuff like that?

Couldn't there be legal ties with Valve (as well as other game developers), I mean, They're making money off of their game.

Hmm I don't think so. They are charging you for their time, not the right to play CS. There are other pay to play leagues out there already, and AFAIK, valve doesn't care.

Uhm... "Pro" gamers account for a very small percentage of all online gamers. Just go play in a few pubs and you'll realize a lot of them are just filled with people looking to have a few rounds of fun.

For one thing, I love how people say it will stop hackers. Are you able to see the future? No one knows if it will stop hackers or not. I mean, currently, hackers purchase the game and get the ID banned right? They just go buy another game that has an id or two right? What will 5 dollars do to thwart that which has not been thwarted till now?? LOL, some people just don't make sense. Charging will not make anyone not want to hack it just gives the people who run the "amateur" league some money. It's a very viable source of income if you think about it. It's strictly a business decision, one that may not work the way they want. I think that the sheeple will pay the fee's and it will be the norm in no time. No one will question it after the first season or two. The thing that bothers me is the follow the leader mentality. Smaller, less popular leagues may want to start charging for their "services". Does this mean that there wont be any quality leagues that don't charge soon? Does this mean that kids that cannot afford to or whose parents wont pay for the fee, wont be able to play in a league?

What about the suspected favoritism within CAL or similar leagues of admins who let their buddies hack or hack themselves? Will this money change this situation? I think it's a bad decision. Leave pay to play with the professionals. Let the amateurs practice (for free of course) and pay when they go pro.

The main effect having pay to play of ANY amount is that some people will be prevented from playing. Most will not, this is true, but some will. And those people, in the case of cs, are more likely to be younger players. Because I don't want to ramble for a full essay, essentially, this will discourage younger players and thus detriment the cs community as a whole, professionally and unprofessionally; and it will do nothing except encourage business practices to affect the computer gaming world, which have proven time and time again to do irreparable damage. meow.

Younger players as in ten year olds yes, but even some others like myself (16) will be unable to play because my mom has no credit card.

NO your wrong, they steal the IDs. Not only are they cheaters but they are thieves. Yea, I am sure some of the retards keep buying the game over and over. But, I was at walmart the other day and upon checking the Counterstrike boxes, I noticed that all but two of them had been opened. Gee, I wonder who would do that eh?

Must be nice when some legitimate guy goes in there and spends his hard earned money on the game, only to find he can't play online cuz the ID is banned.

personally i think this is a bad way to go about funds and a bad business decision if they MUST make it pay to play let the ones who need practice on a league with clout do it for free cal-o should be free at least but i also think cal-im because cal-m and up is where you really start becoming competitive and people accutally notice you exist :/ they should make cpl for cal-m and up (new website) and make cal-o and im for the new kids or adults who want to play ant btw i am 15 yr and i more mature than you 18-20s yr so i think you all should shut up about the younger player thing im also better than a lot of legal adults so i deserve to play just as much as the next person but making a fee for the new teams is pathetic is basically leeching off the people and (yes it is 5 dollars but i dont spend money on things that dont last me awhile....besides food) makeing better prizes for the already over paid players... but they can do what they want a great decrease will happen

because new teams dont normally even have a enough for a server (REAL NEW TEAMS NOT GAY REFORMS) and wtf you guys making comparison to combo meals and rentals those are normally ensured enjoyment (unless your a noob) so you know what your getting but what if i cal your team breaks up you just PAYED 5 dollars for shit

or you have a bad season this has to many holes in it and should be held off for awhile until some security is set in.. like equal prizes for all

I have learned to stay away from public servers I do not know lol. Every time I go into one it's 12 year olds filling the mics with foul mouths because they get shot...and if they get shot...it's the end of the world.



Everyone strives to be the best over a video game. Competitive leagues brought that. It all goes back to the first real online games. DOOM and QUAKE! When they were out before the leagues took place it was fun! Everyone would help everyone out and there were very few jerks who wanted to be the best. If I remember correctly STA (Stronger then all) league was the first. You could say they started it all lol.



I don't like CAL at all and I hate the CPL. $30,000 to win in a tournament for how strong you're wrist is and you're reflexive skills? Making up things like this is just a outlet for those people who sit inside all day, and now mommy's precious baby can feel special in that they are cyber athletes! It's pathetic and one of the worst ideas ever.
