Am I the only one to query the timeline for HL2 development at this time?

The final product ships on 3rd September (per Amazon). Gabe said he expected to send the final version to Vivendi in August.

How many changes can you really make in 20 days of BETA testing? Will any changes to the RTM version really be made as a result of this "BETA"?

Or is the 3rd September release date complete nonsense?

I have been playing Half-Life for years and they give the beta to fucking NEWBIES who bought CS retail?

      WHY!?!?!?

Point 1: The people I know personaly who bought CZ is half the admining team on my current GSP (3/4 of that have been playing CS since the early betas, one is a programmer and one codes webbys). I my self have been playing since beta 6.

Not to mention the people I've come accross playing CZ are: a LOT less abusive, friendly, a good laugh, know how to loose & don't throw a strop when they don't get things their own way. I guess Valve though it would be nice to reward the people who bought something recently from them.

        Point 2: Trolling 101.

No. They are giving the BETA to those who supported them with Condition Zero....which is, in fact, superior to CS anyway.

I don't blame them. Before you reply, know that I also have been playing for 5 years now...not a "newbie who bought CS retail".

They gave us free support and updates for that for 5 years. Time to move on, guy. Life is not a free ride forever. They owe us nothing.

We bought Half-Life 5 or six years ago for $40.00 and less and got Counter-Strike for free with it.

No game company supports their product like Valve does. None.

If they miss a release date because they want it to be right, so what? If they choose to reward those who supported their last release rather than bitch about them, so what again?

They can tweak up and past the release date on steam, surely thats the point? Ditto for the RTM version, any changes resulting from the beta will be incorporated over steam, not before hand.

^^ I think so too. They'll just update what they feel has to be changed from watching the BETA through steam. I'm going to wait to buy CZ untill the BETA is out. It sounds to much like the ATI coupon story all over again.

CS:S and HL2 are the most anticipated games ever. Period
                biggest...crock...off...shit...ever....written. and thats fn period.period.

being a total idsoftware nut im biast in my comments on "hl2 vs doom3" but id hate people to even start comparing cs:s's beta release to the doom3 one.hl2 was once so heavily in everyones mind that yes it was exciting, but what valve have and constantly do wrong, is hype up a product not yet finished.

they ought to take a page..wait...take the entire book of id's way of"promoting a game". instead of hyping up a cs:s beta launch...WHICH...may be delayed..you just never know with valve. they ought to of kept it quiet..just went about the business of finishing it and then maybe a day, or a couple of hrs before launch..go public and annouce it.

ill be pretty disappointed if valve annouce another hl2 release date before stating the game has gone gold.

You know my life revolves around this one sketchy date that is near where the preload is for some person that I am going to assume is me! Why do you toy with me so! It's not worth living!!!"

Maybe you should at least try listening to somebody else instead of arguing to see who's is bigger.
                  no. that's just you.

                  what's this "preloading"?

is this for the cyber cafes?

also, can some high admin/person/guy/girl put up a poll on whether they think CS:S will hit the release date?

                  thanks

I thought it would be kind of neat if we took the DOOM renderer, and we had a team take previous games-don't touch the game, just revamp it graphically. Just take Quake II, and just use the DOOM engine to make brand new graphic models and everything. But don't spend time messing with the gameplay because we know that is pretty good. Just release it as Quake II Remix with brand new graphics technology and sell it at a middle-level price instead of a boutique price. I thought that was a pretty good idea.
wow. sounds a lot like cs:s. hmmm

on the long run? I don't think so.

i really doubt Doom3 will even compete with HL2 in its multiplayer part (although Valve never told us about what kind of multiplayer mode HL2 will get.. but they did say it will be a "surprise")

good multiplayer = great/long lasting game

Presumably Doom 3 will have multiplayer to compete with CS:S and single player which competes with HL2.

Unfortunately Doom 3 is a load of manic crap - shooting unrealistic guns at unrealistic monster in an ugly metal panel environment. HL2 is a highly atmospheric more believable story with beautiful landscapes such as the docks and cities.

I think I will prefer Doom 2 to Doom 3 because it had an amusement factor watching how retarded the AI was.

Clearly HL2 isnt coming out till Christmas... it just makes sense, cause they want to bring in the non-extremist CS players. also they probably want a longer BETA test period than lets say 1 month if they stick to their dates (which they wont). But seriously guys, dont get mad at Valve for being slow with the release of this game; this game most likely will be the best game of all time for many of us and i dont want them to rush it in order to satisfy a minority of impatient assh*les. Just give us that beta though... I have CZ and August 15th is my birthday VALVe give me a BETA present!

I'd like to play HL2 before i die from GhonnaHerpaCyphilAids...
