Weird. So those of us who converted our old 1.5 caches to 1.6 way back in the day got CS 1.6 for free, and now everyone else has to pay for it?

That's what I'm getting from this...is it true?

I'm normally a big Valve defender, but that seems a little odd even to me.

I think I downloaded steam to be able to play games and use Friends with no downtime and no "maintenance", touche valve.

maintenance is quoted purely for hilarity since valve has such a hard time maintaining it.

Only if they buy HL over Steam, I believe.

I am sorry that our initial news post was inaccurate, but either way people who buy Half-Life have always received Counter-Strike and I don't see any good reason to change that, personally.

i JUST made the connection. Valve is shutting down WON..meaning that a whole new bunch of people will be needing to DL steam. Then, when they type in their HL key...they ARENT going to get CS. This means everyone who just had HL, even those that were playing 1.5, are going to need to buy CS retail or CZ.

I better get an award for this!

too bad so sad, guy wasted his money. well not wasted but overspent his money. shit happens, especially to me and i hate it but no one pays me back.

in the long run all this does is give the anti-valvers more ammo.

                    now i officially condemn steam

i always weren't really for steam but their going past the gayness they represented since 1.6 its like gay to the fif power man

Ok, confirmed it's not true. If you have a valid HL key, you're definitely getting CS.

I'm not going to defend Valve on this move, but we can all be certain that no old customers are getting screwed over here.

this isnt new... if u bought hl or cs or platinum pack in stores, u got hl and all mods including cs. if u buy hl premier pack on steam, u dont get cs or cz. if u buy cz on steam u get all of the above. its just misinformed people running their mouths and im sure they will continue to. its just a shame because it looks bad for valve when the run of the mill player comes across this and believes that its true.

i think he was implying that there were like 6 beginnings due to the delays.

thats so stupid since you can buy the halflife pack with all the cds I think it was the 4 or 5 games including CS for $9.99 at any store.

Not true, you get CS:CZ and Counter-Strike 1.6.

The only way to get CS 1.6 and Half-Life single player via Steam is to buy the Half-Life Premier Pack and Condition Zero. If you buy Half-Life in a store, though, you will get CS 1.6 and Half-Life single player with your CD key.

                              It's a bit confusing.

                                To say the least.

Well I guess it's alright if that's the way they want to sell their products via Steam. People can always go and get a HL cd on the cheap at a retailer and get CS for free (at least that's my understanding, still not 100% sure I'm getting this right).

Most inconvenient for Steam enthusiasts though. I have no idea why Valve wouldn't just sell the traditional Platinum Pack via Steam.

Edit: On the plus side, it's mildly scandalous, and scandal is always good for business on this site.
